So it begins...

The sun found it's way to the horizon far to the west of the St. Catherine's campus. The skies turned from blue to orange, red to the black of twilight. But on the horizon an eerie glow remained, longer than should be the case even at dusk ( Read more... )

There wasn't much that broke through Laurian's days, until a few days ago. All of a sudden, she'd lost her Slayer powers, reducing her to being almost crippled and unable to walk. It had been her Slayer strength that allowed her to walk; without it, she could hardly do anything.

Now, only a few days later, something else broke the silence that had only recently settled again over St. Catherine's. She may have lost her Slayer abilities, but years of training still allowed Laurian to sense a sudden wave of evil coming this way. And not only that; a vision of marching undead, rank after rank, briefly clouded her real sight.

As far as Laurian could determine, everyone had changed powers and she had gotten those of a Seer. How ironic, seeing that the only two people she truly cared about were Seers as well. And this time it warned that whoever had gotten Vanya's powers had gone berserk and summoned an undead army beyond believe.

She had to go down. Laurian still clearly remembered the very first vision she'd seen. Rei... her Rei... no, no longer her Rei... But Rei, she would have to fight Rei if she didn't do something to stop it. She didn't want Rei to die; she'd sooner die than let that be allowed to happen.

The once proud and tall warrior now stumbled with great difficulty to the door. She fumbled around with the keys to unlock her door. She left her sword and other weapons behind; she couldn't use them and it would only bring her closer to fulfilling that prophecy. She'd fight with the final powers left; her faith in God. But she first had to get down. She had to face the army of undead or it wouldn't work. It took her longer than Laurian preferred. Already could she hear the cries and shouts from students and professors. Some were running in panic, others remained firm and ready to face this new evil force. Laurian just hoped she'd get there before it was too late...

The first wave of undead warriors had already descended upon the dorms. These shock troops had not even stopped to arm themselves; rather, they seemed to delight in the sick, barbaric pleasure of rending flesh with their own skeletal claws. And though St. Catherine's was normally a well-fortified stronghold filled with trained magical girls of every sort, this army struck in a moment of weakness. There seemed little that anyone could do, and the reanimated dead took advantage of that fact.

As Laurian looked out over the battlefield all that could be seen was pain and misery. Even the most battle-ready students and professors struggled to control their new powers, if they had yet learned what they were capable of. Meanwhile younger girls with no combat training now wielded the awesome powers of Slayers or Mages and rushed foolishly into battle only to be overtaken by the unholy horde. If something were not done soon, the entire campus and every memory of the place once known as St. Catherine's would be no more.

This did not look good. Trained Slayer were left defenseless without their powers. Those who suddenly had them, were not trained in the use of weapons and thus just as defenseless. Laurian did not waste much more time. She staggered to the door, worked herself outside, sank through her knees and began to pray. Prayers that usually would be said in her head were now almost chanted out loud for a bigger effect.

A faint white light began to ripple over the ground, with Laurian in the center. Any professor of student who stood inside this circle would get a glimpse of insight how they had to control their powers in order to defeat the army. And any undead inside the circle was soon burning with holy fire until only ashes remained.

OOC: Don't know how large the school campus is and how many undead there are, but... a circle of 50m radius sounds alright? It has to build up, of course. It starts small and then grows bigger and bigger.

Laurian may be all but defenseless, weakened by injury and stripped of all her normal powers, but she still held on to the most powerful force of all...her faith in God. She kneeled in prayer, and seeing an opportunity the undead force rushed to overwhelm her. But at the sound of the Lord's name the evil spirits that reanimated those corpses were forced to flee returning back to the depths of Hell. The skeletal warriors fell apart at every joint, the useless piles of bones smoldering in that holy light until they were mere piles of ash.

Laurian continued to pray. A circle of white light rippled over the ground, growing with every passing second. People would be safe inside it. They could catch their breath, attend their wounds or think of new strategies. It was all she could do.

And more, Laurian realized when she remembered her new powers. The mind of a Seer could look far if one concentrated hard. Laurian had long grown used to pray while doing something else, although that something else was usually fighting a monster. Now she had to search for the person responsible. She closed her eyes, her lips moving in an endless, mindless chant while her mind searched off the campus for the one responsible.

The undead tried to attack the Lord's chosen warrior in force. They all met the same fate. No evil spirit could withstand the power of God Himself, flowing through one of His faithful. As the rings of the purest light surrounded Laurian, spreading even further out, they did more than provide sanctuary to the other magical girls fighting for their lives. With each ring that radiated outward, the number of fallen warriors grew. Each met the same end as each went up in a pyre of holy flame that eradicated their very existence from this earth.

But unlike the power of faith and of prayer, the visions of a Seer were far less reliable, especially for one not trained to understand how to use this strange new sense. Waves of images crashed upon Laurian's mind. Only her strict ways of thinking, her willpower and her focus were strong enough to force these thoughts into some kind of pattern. Above all else she Saw the aura that could only belong to Vanya. Her psychic energies permeated the entire campus as her power flowed through these undead soldiers. As she scanned the battlefield she saw several smaller battles...Shizuru...Katelyn...Ralph...and Rei. The look on Rei's face was a mixture of fear and concern. Rei was visible for only a glimpse, surrounded by the evil army, and Laurian Saw her turning and running away into the night.
