I am using my only Gossip Girl icon in my arsenal for this comment post.
Hmmm...I don't really know how to say it...but I'll try...maybe a post later down the line and this will be geared towards authors...I don't know about anyone else but the longer the fic gets...sometimes you feel like you're constantly expressing ideas the same way...so maybe a tips or what to do when you sound like a broken record post...ideas...tricks...tools of the trade
We could always try some discussion questions to flesh out any one of our characters - you're own choice; be it a main or a secondary character. I think a lot of people (including myself) sometimes feel like they haven't totally delved into their characters personalities and motivations. So, if you end up talking about even the most mundane things regarding your characters, you get to know them better, and can write them strong and sure.
Like, 'If your character was put in such and such a situation, how would they react? What would they do?'
or
Pick two characters in your fic who you know will rarely interact, and write a dialogue between them - just to see where it goes.
or
Discuss the moment in one of your character's lives in which they switched from being a 'child' to an 'adult'. What happened at that point to make them into the person they are today?
or
What aspects of yourself do you see in your character?
I think these ideas overlap somewhat, but anyway... I'd really love a post where, having introduced ourselves, we could move on to describe the plots of the stories we intend to write. I would like to friend people who are working on projects similar to mine, or at least similar to my interests, and the brief discussions I've had about my story here have been very helpful. Perhaps a good discussion question for that post would be "are there any issues in your plot that you need some ideas or feedback to resolve?" -- like, perhaps people don't need as much help as a prompt post, but there are one or two issues that are kind of sticky, and they could use some help working them out. So maybe the overall discussion topic would be "describe what you have, state if you need help."
And yeah, I think the prompt post would be a great idea, because it would offer some help to people who are struggling to come up with plot ideas at all. Plus, I really love leaving prompts, so I leap whenever something presents itself.
we're definitely going to be doing a 'what we're writing' post, it was actually supposed to go up over the weekend but both 13empress and i were busy so it didn't happen, lol. but yeah that is absolutely going to be a post, never fear.
I also really enjoy prompting, so I think that's a great idea. Also, I'm not an artist/mixer, but I would love to read more about the process behind both practices, especially as they relate to this particular kind of challenge. As an artist, how do you choose what to illustrate in a long story? Individual scenes, or a work that tries to encompass everything you feel the story is about?
I would find a "what we're writing" post very helpful, too.
