it's almost here, folks, and i am eagerly anticipating the embarrassment of riches from you guys.
now sometimes i come across a layout that's a strain on my eyes, though, and for those who have the same problems, here's how i deal with it.
1) this works on both lj and dw: for journals that have custom comment pages with stuff like dark grey text on light grey backgrounds, add ?format=light to the end of the url. this takes everything out to the bare bones, leaving nothing but 12-point black text on a white background. there's also ?style=mine which will revert individual posts to your own default settings if you're fond of the layout you tinkered with.
2) readability.
for firefox. for chrome. pick your settings, add it to your bookmarks. this takes out the comments if you're reading on lj or dw (a warning though, if you use this on a page that has five pages of comments, readability will repeat the story five times). i prefer this on shorter stories and older sites where the fad was green text on black backgrounds.
3) read it on ao3, then go back and comment on lj or dw. i go, "oh, thank god," if there's an ao3 link in the masterpost, because then i don't have to deal with my internet fritzing out just as i click "next part".
wheeeeeeeeeeeee!
