tl;dr: I am now using all my brainpowers at work and have very little left over for my lovely f'listers. So here are some bulleted lists of things.
"His Father's Son" - let's compare and contrast.
Father's Son
- Married to Camelot
- Badass with a sword
- Constant target for assassins and other miscreants
- Pushes away those he should trust (Merlin, Gwen) and trusts bad influences (Agravaine)
- Hetero (?) magical life partner, Merlin
- Blames himself first
- Not enough confidence
- Destined to be cheated on by his wife (not Camelot, the other one)
Son's Father
- Married to Camelot
- Badass with a sword
- Constant target for assassins and other miscreants
- Pushes away those he should trust (Arthur, Morgana, Gaius) and trusts bad influences (Aredian, Catrina)
- Hetero (?) magical life partner, Gaius
- Blames everyone else first
- Too much confidence
- Destined to kill his wife (not Camelot, the other one)
Father's Daughter
- Jealous of Camelot's actual rulers
- Badass with a sword
- Is an assassin/miscreant
- Pushes away those she should trust (Merlin, Arthur) and trusts bad influences (Agravaine, Morgause)
- Hetero (?) magical life partner, Morgause
- Blames everyone else first
- Too much confidence
- Destined to destroy the kingdom in an attempt to take it
That Morgana, and not Arthur, is Uther II was probably already clear to everyone (except, apparently, Morgana). But I still enjoyed Arthur's angsting (I'm a fan of poor little rich boys) and general suicidal tendencies. AND SHIT Y'ALL, THERE WAS A QUEEN. I mean, a female head of state! A laaaaady!
Not like this.
Apropos of nothing, here are some things that make me happy:
- This batch of super-adorable art by pandatwirls. Merlin vs. Dorocha! Gwaine vs. Nature!
- zahrawithaz's insightful and well-researched essays.
- voldything's picspam recaps.
- Grimm, the new show from Buffy alum David Greenwalt. It's awesome, y'all! Although for some reason, NBC decided the best place for it would be at the same time as both Supernatural and Fringe. WTF you guys, just because The X-Files ran for 9 years in that slot doesn't mean it's a good slot.
- ringer-tv, the other new show that earned an instant place in my heart. Sarah Michelle Gellar in a dual role, and a rainbow panoply of hot guys? Yes please and thank you! ♥ ♥ ♥ BRIDGET AND ANDREW 4EVER ♥ ♥ ♥
