I've noticed that it's almost impossible to live in today's American society without hearing or seeing something asking us to 'support the troops over in Iraq'. Supporters of this war often argue that we're over there to 'liberate the Iraqi people' and 'give them a better life.' (Editorial comment: This seems to be the excuse a lot of people, but not everyone, settled on after the WMD 'threat' fell apart.)
If this is true, then why is there NEVER anyone saying 'pray for the Iraqi people'? In particular, the tens of thousands of innocent citizens who have died. If we're truly there to free them and give them a better life, shouldn't we care that they're dying? Shouldn't we extend our net of compassion and prayer to include them as well, seeing as how the vast majority of them are unarmed and unable to defend themselves? I'm not saying we shouldn't pray for the troops, but maybe we need to step back and take a good look at the bigger picture.
Not really trying to be snarky here...it just seems like a huge hypocrisy. Maybe it's just me.
