Progress: Day 2

Soundtrack: AA Bondy - How Will You Meet Your End?
Soundtrack Bonus: Ramones - Blitzkrieg Bop. Just thought of this song while writing a scene, so I should probably add it, too. :)
First Word Sprint: 1,995 words
Final Word Count: 5,420

Ended yesterday at 3,027 words! Pretty proud of that one.

My daily goal count is still 2,500 so it looks like I won't have any trouble meeting that, at least as long as I dedicate the time to it after work... I was at this job last year, too, and I would write about 2,000 words while I was at work, and then not write anything when I got home. It was not a bad technique, but then I also didn't write on weekends... And I quickly lost steam as soon as I started getting more work!

I hope that making myself match (and exceed) my morning word count in the evening at home will help me get in the groove for weekend writing. I'm a smidgen over 5k now, and I'll be probably closer to 7k by the end of today, so chances of meeting and writing past my Sunday night goal of 10k is pretty friggin awesome. I've never been so hopeful at the very beginning!

I don't even know that my novel is going anywhere at the moment but things seem to be coming together in my head as I pace myself with scene writing. Yesterday & today at work I've written some on Dylan, and I think Dylan will become my work bro. Because I have three separate story lines running through this novel, I've decided to divide them by location and/or format. That is:

Dylan is getting written at work, because it seems like I can write in his voice better here... it's more professional, or rather not professional-- but it's more focused on description and imagery, and less on language and thought. I can plow through a scene in an hour or so without breaking, so it's better here where my only interruption will be, well, actual work. ;)

Andy (so far) is getting written at home, because it's much more informal. It's very relaxed, a lot of dialogue... Andy's storyline seems to be developing into the kind of thing I have to eat/snack while I write because I have to stop and think for a few minutes. Perfect for writing at home!

I haven't started Luke yet, so I don't know where he'll fit in, but I'm quite pleased with the progress so far on the other two. Only 5k in, so nothing's happening yet, but as I mentioned I've developed a little bit of back story to set up what's been going on in Dylan's life up to when the story started, so I can launch right into all the stuff that's going to happen. Andy's so far has been more just flashbacks from his distant past as he deals with the loss of a loved one, but just a snapshot. Not much to go on yet, but I'm really proud of some of it. Pretty excited this year, guys!

Some favorite lines so far.

(Yesterday, in light of the fact that I didn't do this yesterday.)

One of Dylan's coworkers: "They," she indicated the waiting room robots with joking conspiracy, "get antsy if they see your face but you aren't doing anything to help them."

To start Andy: Andy was sticking the chopstick through the glass to scrape off whatever he could get when Freddie snuck in through the front door and sat on the couch silently.

Andy's travels: He indicated a small closet room that may have once been covered in blood, Andy couldn't tell it was bleached so bright white.

(Today, so far.)

At work: Friends complained often about not being able to obtain their dreams; Dylan never complained because he rarely remembered his.

Sam's introduction: "I'm so lost in my world I'm not even sure you exist," the girl said to him suddenly.

That same night: "Don't be scared," she said softly. "You'll frighten the ghosts."

Talking to Sam: He didn't have the most readable face, but people still knew his language sometimes.

Happy writing! Hope you're all being just as (if not more) productive. I don't know if I'll be able to write much on the weekends since I don't have Internet at home so I'll check in with you all either tomorrow or Monday! Make the first weekend an AWESOME weekend!
