We talk a lot about how strange it is that so many people in our group have multiple odd connections with each other. Even by our standards, though, the number and variety of connections I learned of during an expedition to my brother's girlfriend (H)'s parents' place is unsettling:
- My grandmother grew in a small town. Living next door? The eventual mother of my childhood dentist.
- H's father went to elementary school with the sister of an old friend of our family.
- H's mother was taught in elementary school by the woman who would later get me interested in Greek.
- H's grandmother's maiden name is the same as the married name of one of my grandmother's sisters, and they're from the same small town (though I'm not sure that this is the same one that my grandmother came from). This suggests that H is a... what? Third cousin? Fourth?
