It's certainly interesting to think that when you look at overcompensated fads (like emo at the moment perhaps?) that the singers can be put in one of two groups - singers with high lyrics who grunt, or just singers who grunt and get their guitarists to sing.
If musicians didn't get signed (no offence, ha!) they wouldn't get ego's and therefore telling them they sound like another band wouldn't be such a harsh comment and wouldn't be dismissed as much. The problem is: all the labels want a slice of the pie. Greed.

I don't agree with that at all. It's not always going to be a signing that gives members an ego, some are terrible right from the point that they first step out on stage, believe me.
To true, Some band members ive come accross in the last 10 yrs of running/playing/helping out at gigs are so far up there own ass its untrue. While Confidence and self Belief in your playing is a good thing, some people take it to far. Ego trip/rockstar tantrums from bands who are meant to be playing just for fun (or so theyed have you beleave during their 9-5 working ours) really piss me off. One band over here after their 1st gig posted on their website slagging all the other bands here off saying that none of us could write for shit. which was pretty arogant after a half hour set with 2 or 3 orginal songs and the rest covers played at best average. way to go Ego boys, your bound to get a second gig after slagging all the other bands round you off.
Music for fun? ahhhh now i remeber why i do this. i think.
The Band i mentioned above have now split after the Ego who did the slagging off of all out good bands then slept with his guitarists girlfriend. Oh well.
