Chinese New Year?

I'm assuming last night was the Chinese New Year. Starting at midnight, there was the sound of firecrackers for about five minutes straight from some uncertain distance to the West and possibly North. I'm guessing they were in the International District. I'm also guessing that because there were no police sirens, this was in fact a planned event and not some massive ammo depot baking off thousands of rounds (which is what it sounded like).

Someone please tell me I'm correct.
