One of my friends died suddenly last Friday. I only found out this afternoon. I have been friends with him and his wife since 1999, and have sat next to him at Predators games since 2000. I can't believe that I won't see him ever again.
TOM "SWAMP RAT" PRICE PASSES AWAY
As you may have heard by now, Tom passed away suddenly last week. The word has just been getting around during the last two days. For those of you who didn't know him personally, I'm sure you were aware of him at the Preds games: he was the guy in Section 302 with the police beacon light on top of his Preds' helmet. He would gleefully turn it on every time Nashville would score. He became quite the personality--especially with children who would love to see how he made the light work. He also became known from highlights on ESPN, Fox Sports South, local TV, and newspaper coverage. "Swampy" was also a regular contributor on the Predators Message Board, keeping many of us in stitches with his irreverent and witty views on myriad subjects.
Despite his gruff exterior, Tom was a big sweetheart. He was gracious to help out in any way he could, and always had kind words for many who met him at Wolfy's before games, during games, fan events, and various viewing parties. We will miss his big smile, quick laugh, big heart, and the joy he brought to each hockey night in Nashville.
One thing is for sure: Tom will be joining other 303ites Jackie Haltom and Eudora Hunter in watching Predators games from that big Skybox above. I'm sure after a Preds victory, if we look hard enough into the central Tennessee sky when leaving the GEC, we will see a red beacon blinking in the clouds above us.
Please keep Tom's wife, Brenda (also known as "Gnash Lady"), in your prayers. This came very unexpectedly, and her health has not been the best for the past few years. Any way that we can rally around her and encourage her would be greatly appreciated. The Predators Pride Booster Club is receiving all cards and letters, and will forward them along to her:
