'Tis the Season To Be Stupid
Copper thieves accidentally torched Birmingham, AL's 35-foot downtown Christmas tree when they stole the lights off of it, poured gasoline on the lights, and set fire to them to separate the plastic from the copper wiring, igniting the tree in the process. The problem: The tree is located in the park right across from City Hall, and there was also a shelter open housing about a hundred or more homeless from the severe cold. One would think the spectacle of a giant flaming Christmas tree would have attracted some attention from the police, or the homeless or shelter workers, or the guards on duty at City Hall overnight, or at the county jail across the street, but apparently not. The good news: A local radio station has donated a new tree and decorations. Now we just need a Santa with a shotgun to guard the damn thing.
