The other day, someone in the Full Metal Panic! fandom was sharing her head canons for the characters. It was interesting and it got me thinking about my own head canon for Sousuke.
I do have a background in psychology, and I know that Sousuke is kind of amazing that he's survived as long as he has and still is relatively sane. He should, at the very least, be experiencing posttraumatic stress disorder, but he doesn't seem to be. In fact, he learns from his experiences so well that, as a very gentle boy, he can be quite ruthless.
I've thought about this a lot and I think the way that Sousuke has been able to survive the way he has is because he's compartmentalized his mind to the nth degree. He keeps his emotions so far away from his memories that I wonder if he'll ever be able to access all of them. I also think that's why he's so clueless when it comes to Kaname. He's never needed the parts of him that she most wants. And he wants to give that to her.
I am quite happy with this story. I think it makes a lot of sense and it really fits with my understanding of Sousuke. It also really fits the last prompt (doubt) for the Summer Mini Challenge. I'm done!
