Full Metal Panic Fic: "The Sickness" Chapter 8

Story Summary: Alternate Universe. Sousuke Sagara is the long standing, long suffering bodyguard of Lady Kaname, the only daughter in a wealthy family. She has recently been married off to a distant cousin in the hopes that she produce an heir and will never be forced to leave her home. No one expected the zombie apocalypse. In time, it’s only Sousuke and Kaname fighting for survival and just hoping not to get bitten in this strange, new world.
Chapter Summary: There's a fox in the henhouse. Sousuke tries to discover what Gauron would want with Jindai.
WARNINGS: Standard zombie killing gore.

While I love it, this chapter was really, really hard to write. I'm not great at confrontations or suspense as a person. I hate it when my favorite characters have to deal with those things. So, to intentionally inflict them on my favorite characters was rough. I'm not unhappy with the way it turned out, but it wasn't easy.
Let me also talk a little bit about some of the things I've forgotten in past notes. 1) Right now I am planning a sister story that details exactly what happened between Kaname and Sousuke the second time they shared a private room (hint: lots of awesome sex). 2) Just randomly, I based the Akane character on Orange is the New Black's character of Red. Only she's a bit more evil. 3) This chapter fits very nicely within the Summer Mini Challenge prompt of "wicked." :)
The chapter title is actually a song I really love, Three Days Grace's "Just Like You." I think part of the reason I love it so much is that it's such a Gauron-Sousuke song. Based on their past, Gauron has always wanted Sousuke in some way. Sousuke was a soldier who killed without much regret and Gauron really responded to that. They've been enemies, but Gauron sees the ultimate challenge of Sousuke and wants to bend him to his will. It's when Sousuke begins to change under Kaname's influence that Gauron expresses his disappointment with Sousuke. But the thing is that Sousuke never wanted to be like Gauron. He has always hated him and he likes the changes that Kaname has brought out in him. So I really see this song as completely representing the way Sousuke considers Gauron.
The story is actually more than half way done now. This is kind of exciting. While I've always promised myself that I would finish this fic, it's looking more and more like it might actually happen! The next chapter will be fun action (I hope), while most everyone's questions will be answered in the chapter after that. We'll get to know a little more about this charming zombie apocalypse and exactly what Gauron's motivations truly are.
And if anyone is reading this, please let me thank you for coming along with me on this silly zombie ride. It feels a lot like a vanity project, and I think it is because I'm only writing it because I like it. I usually take the writer advice of writing for one other person out there who will just totally "get" the story, but not this time. It's just for me and the fact that anyone else is interested makes me really, really happy. So thank you.
