Notes:

I've done another crossover with Sandman, only this time it's in the FMP fandom.  Oops?

I knew that I was probably going to write a FMP fanfic for fanfic_bakeoff, especially since the prompt was "Tease," but I had no idea that this was the turn it was going to take.

It all started when I was out for a run.  I had just looked for new FMP fanfics to read, so it was fresh in my mind.  I listen to music and Tori Amos's "Silent All These Years" came on, a favorite of mine.  As I was listening, I thought about her relationship with Neil Gaiman, another of my favorites, and how she put him in a song, then he put that song in comic book series Sandman that she was singing about.  I wondered just how much she influenced his art and he influenced her art for the better.  I don't know why, but I love the idea that they're terrific friends and are pushing each other to do fantastic things.

So I ran and wondered if her personality was at all evidenced in Delirium.  They're both redheads, I know, but I don't know Tori well enough to be able to say if she's as magical(?) as Delirium.  And then I began remembering how sweet Death is and how much I love her.

This brought me to think about the short comic by Gaiman, "Death and Venice," where a young assassin/soldier who had a random encounter with Death as a child fell completely in love with her.  He encounters her again, at the same place, and is able to help her out.  This, of course, brought be back to Sousuke.  He's had his own run-ins with Death.  I imagined that he'd have fallen equally in love with her as everyone else.  I was running, so the thought of them being physical, doing something together on that edge of life and death, seemed important.  So I began to see them dancing.

From there, the pieces just fell into place.  I really liked writing this story and I think it turned out well.  I even liked the way it makes a kind of sense that Sousuke would feel so little remorse for all those he's killed if he thinks about how lucky they are that they're going to get to meet Death.

And now that my notes are three times as long as the story, I'll quiet down about this.  Yay!
