Told my boss today that I am moving at the end of September. It went surprisingly well.
As far as finding some new employment...there are some very interesting possibilities, one of which ( I will not jinx it by mentioning it) would be such an amazing oppurtunity. I will see what happens. So much going on right now, I feel like I am about to be swept out to sea...and either find fabled Atlantis filled with free fried shrimp and buxom Mermaids, or get drowned and eaten by sharks. I hope for the first.
On the movie front:
Howl's Moving Castle- A-MA-ZING. What a beautiful mind Miyizaki has. His eye is better than most non-animation film makers! And although I felt the ending could have been stonger, the journey of the film was astounding. I wouldn't say it was better than Spirited Away, but I will say it's one of his best.
High Tension- Finally got around to seeing it...I had such hopes for this, and just that shot of a bloodied and crazed Camille De France holding the barb-wired peaice of wood...shivers. So reminicsent of the 70's hey-day of horror film classics. But what the movie had in visual style and a great textures...it all fell apart when the "twist ending" started to reveal itself. (actually, an astute observer will be able to pick up on the twist ending from the very first bit of dialogue, it's that bad!) The very premise is actually the subject of ridicule in the film Adaptation. (I don't want to spoil it for anyone still planning on seeing it, but it's the identical twist ending of Charlie Kaufman's twin brother's script in said film.)
And on Rental:
Out Foxed- HOLY SHIT!!! AAAARGGGH!!! Everyone in America should see this movie!!! It is THAT important!!! Thanks go to my brother Joe for recommending it to me. For those of you who don't know, it's a documentary film about Rupert Murdoch and FOX News, and Murdoch's buying, through his ownership of such a vast ammount of American media outlets, and his absolute devotion to the Republican right-wing party and his digusting, sociopathic use of FOX News for being not a journalistic enterprise, but a soapbox-for-the-religous-right disguised as "news" station. Fox news is the biggest enemy of American free-press and journalistic ideals, and how he uses bullies and media-terrorists like Bill O'Reilly as his spokesmen for his Republican associations. This film left me disgusted, angry and most of all, incited to do everything in my power to stop FOX news.
