(no subject)

Today is just one of those days. I'm drowning underneath all of the things I need to get done. Luckily I have the help of Corey and Tyler. Moving day should be easy as well with all the help I am receiving from my friends.

In the past few days I have been re-evaluating friendships. Deciding which ones mean something to me and those that don't. While thinking about this, I realized how great of a friend Corey has been to me. He is like my brother. Besides Tyler, who else would clean my whole house before I got home? Or pretty much jump and do anything I ask from him. He's a great friend and I don't regret any of the sacrifices I have made for him.

I have some damn good loyal friends.

Making new friends is always a great experience too. Such as Kayla. We have so much in common it scares me sometimes.

You make new friends, you lose some old ones. It's life. Honestly at this point in my life I'm not concerned with those people who don't treat me the way I should be treated. I don't deserve half of the shit I put up with and I'm done with it. I'm going to do what makes ME happy. Moving back to East Quogue and getting away from all the bullshit that is coming from where I live now, is what will make ME happy.

I'm going to get back into art. Because I am an artist. Remember that? I actually do ART.

The term artist can be mistaken for something it is not. What are your thoughts?
I believe that an artist is someone who does something aesthetically pleasing. That's also the definition on dictionary.com, something along those lines of being visual. Visual. I think the word has lost its meaning along the way. Almost like a slang, like back in the day when people would day "Dude, you're so boss" Boss, meaning "cool", not "Your employer". "Hey, Pink, you're such an artist" Fuck Pink. She's got her rock moves and doesn't need me. Could you argue that Pink is, in fact, an artist?

A performer could be an artist. The way they choose to perform their music, visually pleasing to the eye, makes them an artist.

Listening to someone sing lyrics does not make them an artist to me. Whoever wrote the lyrics is not an artist to me. Poets are poets, not artists. Authors are authors, not artists. Lyricists are lyricists, not artists.
No where in the definition of poet, author, writer, or lyricist is the word "art" or "artist" mentioned. I think that writers can paint a picture with their words, which you may argue makes them an artist.

Such as the poem, "The Red Wheelbarrow" by William Carlos Williams :

so much depends
upon
a red wheel
barrow

glazed with rain
water

beside the white
chickens.

You can picture this in your head, no? It's so simple yet has so much underlying meaning if you've ever studied this poem. This makes him a good writer, poet, author, whatever you want to call him. But he didn't actually create something visually pleasing. If you didn't know the English language you would look at this an see nothing but jibberish. It has no meaning. But everyone can look at a drawing or a painting and get something out of it.

Which brings me to the argument about blank canvases being art. What a fun subject. I could argue both standpoints actually. I would have to go with "Yes". I think that they are. If the canvas was not blank but was blue instead of tan, would this change everything and make it art? Is it just not art because it's blank? You could get meaning out of a blank canvas. It's like starting fresh, starting over. I have a blank canvas all stretched and ready to go just sitting in my room. It's been there for about a year, and every time I look at it I think "Man, I can't wait to get started on that". So if I went to a museum and saw a blank canvas, yes I would be a little disappointed, but I would look at it with an open mind thinking that it could relate to life. Wiping the slate clean. Giving you a second chance.

The English language is so vast so that we know what we mean when we say things. An Artist is a person who practices one of the fine arts, esp. a painter or sculptor. A Writer is a person engaged in writing books. A Poet is a person who composes poetry.

Get it right.

Sorry for the rant.
