The layer of snow that had fallen already was packed, the prints of various animals criss-crossing the floor of the Sweedish forest. Despite the treacherous terrain, there was a man that could be seen running at full speed. His hair was long and rough, making him look rather feral as did the fact that he occasionally ran with his hands supporting some of his weight because he was so leaned forward as he ran. That man was Troy Amsgarde. He had a look of a man possessed, or at least a man being chased by one. In fact, he had several people after him. They were clad in blues and purples, each wielding an exotic looking weapon and wearing bizarre masks.
Troy's mind had been a blur ever since the masked people had appeared. He had never been one to believe much in spiritual things, but when they suddenly appeared, he was ready to believe in demons. He had instinctively headed to where he spent a lot of his free time - a small cave in the forest near the village he lived in. Ever since his parents had died of natural causes, Troy had taken to walks in the forest. It never struck him as odd that the residents of that cave, a large pack of wolves, seemed to adopt him as one of the pack. It just seemed... natural.
Regardless, Troy knew one thing. He needed help if he were to confront these assailants. When he neared the wolves' den, he spun, skidding to a stop on the icy ground. A pair of snowy white wolves came to his side, growling and baring their teeth. Despite the otherwise deserted look the area had, Troy was assured to know that the rest of the pack was already surrounding the assaulting demon-faced attackers.
The Manji held their weapons at the ready as they eyed the man they were sent to test. They weren't given specifics just to push the man to his limits. They exchanged silent looks, each gesture conveying their puzzled ideas as to how to deal with the wolves. One katana wielding ninja raised his blade ready to strike when a low rumbling voice carried to where all the ninjas and wolves were assembled. "Namu... stand down, Manji..."
Troy blinked a bit as he took a stance more natural for a human as he looked around for the source of the voice. When he found it, he was surprised that he hadn't heard the distinctly mechanical sounds that churned softly within the bright orange and red armor. The man was perched lightly on a thin looking branch, further confusing Troy.
"You... you speak?" Troy said, having convinced himself that whatever was chasing him wasn't human.
"We are Manji," said the man as he jumped down to the ground, pulling a softly glowing green blade from a sheathe on his back. "I am their leader... Yoshimitsu."
Troy blinked, only belatedly noticing the assailants had backed away and fell to their knees. He waved a hand to his side, and the two wolves that had been hovering close to him backed down, if only reluctantly. "...What do you want from me?"
"We wish to test you..." he said stopping just out of reach. "The blade... tells me you are one of a select few... that could help shape the course of our world..."
Troy blinked, confused. He had always been a normal man, if a little unnaturally attracted to befriend all things canine. Though... he had to admit, when he saw the blade as it was held out for his inspection, he felt odd. His golden eyes narrowed as he felt this odd change as he regarded the skull-faced man.
He let out a feral howl a moment later, overcome with a strange feeling. He couldn't see it, but the wolf-like spirit that had manifested behind him was clear to all others. A low grating sound escaped Yoshimitsu as he saw the beast hovering behind Troy as the man's features began to take on a lupine look to them. "Namu... so the blade... it was correct... the Forest Spirit has manifested... but has it been tamed?" Yoshimitsu raised his fists, blade in one hand as he regarded the man. "Let us see... namu..."
