Step Back in Time
September 8, 2010
Earlier this week, The Waters of Mars won the 2010 Hugo Award for Best Dramatic Presentation, Short Form.
And so our latest Step Back in Time only rewinds the clock a few months, returning us to November, 2009 to salute this award-winning story.
The adventure was written by Russell T Davies and Phil Ford, directed by Graeme Harper and starred David Tennant as the Tenth Doctor. He was joined by Lindsay Duncan who played Adelaide Brooke. As a little girl, Adelaide had seen a Dalek zoom into space and knew that one day she would follow it. That pursuit led her to Bowie Base One, Earth's first manned outpost on Mars. But the dream of space travel, for Adelaide, at least, would end in tragedy.
The clip we've chosen comes from a pivotal moment when the Doctor returns to the base to help the surviving humans. Amidst fire and water he makes a pledge to protect them, but for once, the Time Lord may have gone too far...

Omnipresent scifi character actor Mark Sheppard is headed to Doctor Who
October 17, 2010
The inevitable (and awesome) has finally happened: Mark Sheppard, the man behind Badger/Romo Lampkin/Benedict Valda/Crowley/Manservant Neville/every other shifty but strangely lovable science fiction character of the last decade is playing a "huge role" on the next series of Doctor Who.
Apparently having run out of genre shows to appear on in the United States, Sheppard is finally appearing on a show in his native Britain. The news comes from a ValleyCon press release explaining why he had to cancel his appearance there:
We had just booked Mark's airline tickets a week ago when less than 12 hours later he got the dream job of any kid who grew up in England-and many kids here too. He landed a huge role in the new Dr. Who but they needed him there the next day.
Here's hoping he really did land a "huge" role - since he's based in Los Angeles, I'm guessing the series wouldn't bring him in unless they had something big in mind. In any event, you can officially add Doctor Who to Sheppard's genre credits, which already include (very deep breath) Firefly, Medium, Bionic Woman, 24, The Middleman, Burn Notice, Battlestar Galactica, Dollhouse, Chuck, Warehouse 13, and Supernatural, not to mention early appearances on The X-Files, Sliders, and Star Trek: Voyager.

First look: River Song in Series 6
October 20, 2010
Hello sweetie! Here’s an early look at River Song (Alex Kingston) back in action in Series 6 of Doctor Who.
On Monday, the production team were shooting scenes for the opening two-parter. Alex Kingston and the recently announced guest star Mark Sheppard filmed a scene together.
The scene they shot sounds eerily similar to the opening of The Time of Angels. In it, a gang of suited men, led by Canton Everett Delaware III (Mark Sheppard), corner River. A dialogue exchange occurs and then River falls backwards off the edge of the platform. Interestingly, River also appears to have tally marks on her arms.
Thanks to Timeboyy, we have some footage of the scene…

According to the same source, this is a dialogue before River jumps:
Canton: “Stop! Don’t move!”
River: “There are loads of them, They’re everywhere”
Canton: “America is being invaded!”
Canton: “America was invaded a long time ago, America is occupied”
[River moves back a little more]
Canton: “Don’t move! There’s no way out!”
River: [something that sounded like] “Oh really?”
SOURCE (DOCTORWHOTV) 'Crash' Star Arlene Tur Boards 'Torchwood' As Search For New Regulars Intensifies
November 9, 2010
Crash actress Arlene Tur is joining the upcoming fourth season of Torchwood as a recurring. The news comes as producers of the British-born cult hit continue their exhaustive search for two new series regulars to join franchise vets John Barrowman and Eve Myles. Enver Gjokai (Dollhouse) and Chad Michael Murray (One Tree Hill) had been circling the male role -- a sharp-as-nails, funny-as-hell, tough-as-rawhide CIA agent -- but producers ultimately deemed neither to be a good fit. (I'm told a feeler was also put out to James Wolk, the breakout star of Fox's short-lived Lone Star, but he passed.) Greek's Amber Stevens, meanwhile, had been circling the female part -- a CIA Watch Analyst who possesses an unshakable faith in human nature. Tur will play a surgeon by the name of Vera Juarez. Starz recently nabbed domestic rights to the show's fourth season in a co-production deal with BBC Worldwide Prods. Michael Ausiello will be contributing to Deadline.com and Movieline.com as he preps for the early '11 launch of a new TV-centric website.

BBC America to Premiere “Doctor Who” Special on Christmas Day

Harry Potter's Michael Gambon Guest Stars in the Holiday-Themed Adventure
Following Matt Smith's appearance on The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson on Tuesday November 16, BBC AMERICA announces that the new Doctor Who Christmas Special will premiere in the U.S. for the first time on Christmas Day. The festive Dickens-inspired adventure, A Christmas Carol, is penned by award-winning lead writer and executive producer Steven Moffat (Sherlock, Coupling) and premieres Saturday, December 25, 9:00 pm ET.
Newlyweds Amy Pond (Karen Gillan) and Rory Williams (Arthur Darvill) are joined by Harry Potter's Michael Gambon and Opera diva Katherine Jenkins, for what may be the Doctor's most Christmassy adventure yet.
Lead Writer and Executive Producer, Steven Moffat, commented on the upcoming special: "Oh, we're going for broke with this one. It's all your favorite Christmas movies at once, in an hour, with monsters. And the Doctor. And a honeymoon. And ... oh, you'll see. I've honestly never been so excited about writing anything. I was laughing madly as I typed along to Christmas songs in April. My neighbors loved it so much they all moved away and set up a website demanding my execution. But I'm fairly sure they did it ironically."
Perry Simon, General Manager, Channels, added: "Doctor Who has become a key part of the BBC AMERICA schedule, and having the opportunity to air A Christmas Carol on Christmas Day is like receiving our very own holiday gift. The Timelord may travel through time and space, but he's certainly found a home at BBC AMERICA."
Doctor Who is currently filming in Utah for next season's two-part premiere set in the U.S. during the late '60s. Matt Smith, Karen Gillan, Arthur Darvill, Alex Kingston and guest star Mark Sheppard are all in production stateside. The next season premieres spring 2011 on BBC AMERICA.
In the run up to A Christmas Carol on Christmas Day, BBC AMERICA will be running a marathon of the series, beginning at midnight on December 24 and leading up to this year's special. The marathon includes previous Christmas specials and a selection of favorite Doctor Who episodes from recent seasons.
Christmas Day will also see the premiere the Doctor Who Prom, a live concert featuring stars Matt Smith, Karen Gillan and Arthur Darvill as hosts. The Doctor Who Prom was filmed earlier this year at the world renowned Royal Albert Hall and features appearances from the Weeping Angels, Daleks and the TARDIS. The BBC National Orchestra of Wales, who record the soundtrack for the series, present a selection of intergalactic music - including Murray Gold's music from the TV show, plus a selection of classical favorites.
Fans can catch up on the new Doctor's first season with Doctor Who: The Complete Fifth Series Blu-ray and DVD, both are now available in stores.
SOURCE (THE FUTON CRITIC) Davies: 'Who, Torchwood will not clash'
November 17, 2010
Torchwood creator Russell T. Davies has revealed that a crossover between the series and parent show Doctor Who could still happen.
The fourth series of the sci-fi spinoff, titled The New World, will be a co-production between the BBC and US network Starz.
However, Davies told IGN: "Steven [Moffat] said he'd love to see Jack [Harkness] in Doctor Who. So if Steven says that, Steven will make it happen, I would think. That's not inside information, but I bet one day it will happen. I'd love to see it. It would be marvellous."
The writer also confirmed that he is still in close contact with Moffat regarding the two shows.
"Steven knows the plot of The New World," he explained. "We both have enough awareness of each other's worlds to avoid [clashing]."
He continued: "We're very careful to make sure that we behave within the Doctor Who world, while still being completely free to tell our own stories."
Doctor Who will return to BBC One this Christmas. Torchwood: The New World will air in the US and the UK next summer.

Matthew Graham Returns for Series 6
November 17, 2010
Steven Moffat has confirmed that Life on Mars and Ashes to Ashes creator Matthew Graham will write a two-part story for Series 6. Moffat broke the news in the latest issue of Doctor Who Magazine.
Graham previously wrote for Doctor Who back in 2006 with the episode Fear Her. His new story will comprise episodes 5 and 6 of Series 6, directed by Julian Simpson.
Moffat teased the episode and says it will be a “…thrilling and terrifying two-parter. The Doctor will face a dilemma the like of which he’s never seen before.”
Graham confirmed on Twitter that episode 5 will be called, “The Rebel Flesh” and 6, “Gangers“.
The magazine also reveals that (as we suspected) Moffat will be writing episodes 7 and 8. So that means they’ll be two, two-parters in a row, which is another first since Doctor Who returned. Although the conclusion of the third two-parter will be separated by the summer break.
So far the line-up is - Moffat two-parter, Neil Gaiman, Mark Gatiss, Matthew Graham two-parter, Moffat - summer break - Moffat. Only five left to go.
