So my dear and lovely Hannah has purchased my li'l self a plane ticket and I will be Seeing everyone twice this year is an unexpected and wonderful surprise. It's also going to be my birthday while I'm there, and Will was kind enough to let me gather at his house on Saturday, 21st. I'm turning 27. I'm hoping very much that 27 will turn out better than 26, because I kNOW that 26 sucked fucking-rotten-asshole. Not that I know what fucking-rotten-asshole tastes or smells like.
I had a beautiful day off of work. Around three thirty pm I was biking home from picking up the bike from the shop, and I decided to keep riding towards the lake. I rode through downtown and to the end of Navy Pier and sat there and looked at the waves and the beginning of dusk tickling the clouds. Then I rode a bit south down to Millennium Park. I sat in the plaza reading my latest book, Falling Leaves (which is absolutely incredible memoir of an 'unwanted Chinese daughter'), while occasionally looking up to laugh at the tourists doing weird shit in front of the sculpture nick named 'The Bean.'
After about an hour, I made the conscious decision that I should eat, because if I don't pay close attention to my eating habits, I just forget for days at a time. I found this adorable little place on Michigan Ave called My Thai. The food was really good, and cheap. I got the Chicken Rama, which is chicken with broccoli topped with a peanut sauce and a side of jasmine rice, all for only $6.75. And I got a cucumber salad, which ended up being super tasty with some kind of clear sweet sauce. I'm rather proud of myself for eating alone, which is something I haven't ever done. Well, at least not since I frequented The Huddle House in South Carolina while I was supposedly enrolled in college. Little did they know I was actually majoring in drinking coffee and eating hash-browns with cheese. Later I did augment my greasy diner studies with the rapid intake of PBR at miscellaneous dive bars.
Anyhow, after a lovely dinner with myself, reading more of the great book I got at a tag sale a couple of weeks ago, I hopped on the bike to go home. On the way, I was passing by my friend Kelly's lounge. I haven't seen her in quite a while, and I absolutely never in that area, so I stopped by to see if she was working. To my dismay, she has Thursdays off. But the guy working, Daniel, was super nice and chatted with me for a few minutes. He bought me a Heineken. I read a little more of my book, then headed home. Needless to say, I enjoyed the bike ride a whole lot. I intend to go on a lot more rides like this. Now that I'm not running anymore, I need SOME kind of physical behavior.
And that is my story. I have Saturday off of work. Perhaps... another bike riding saga will take place. I still have to go to Chinatown with my friend Logan. He backed out on me today, but for a good reason. His little sister (14) was home alone because their parents had an errand of some sort to run. So he went to go pick her up and hang out for the evening. Oh well.
Maybe I'll go by myself on Saturday. I don't have anything else to do. It'd be better than getting in trouble, eh?
:)
