Um... a bit of egg on my face, maybe. When I made this post, I was very enthusiastic about Ms. Fire Thunder's plans for an Planned Parenthood clinic that could provide abortions on Native land. However, this post provides some background about the realities of life for the Native Americans that most of us don't know. In short, politics rears its head into everything, and Ms. Fire Thunder may have difficulty making her clinic a reality, despite her good intentions.
The upshot is, letters of support would be welcomed, but it might make more sense to save your money until the clinic is actually being built. Or donate to Planned Parenthood in your own state, to fight more incursions against abortion availability, or to Planned Parenthood in South Dakota, because they are fighting the new law.
Sorry for going off half-cocked in my enthusiasm. OTOH, I still intend to donate - but now I think I'll split it, and send half to the already-established clinics that are able to use it right now.
