One of my best friends since year 7 in engaged, and has asked me to be her maid of honour!! I'm so excited and happy for her; she wants to wear a black wedding dresS (we both loved that idea from "The Secretary") and it's going to be small and intimate. Well, not as intimate as the movie sort of thing.
BUT I'm crazy at her at the moment; I lent her $600 (I offered, she didn't ask) but I needed it by today for my bond payment, and she said she'd have it in by Tuesday and it's still not in. Grrrr.
But I love her.
Ever feel that sometimes you begin to believe something because everyone keeps saying it; you keep hearing the same opinion and reasons over and over again until you begin to think ... hey, maybe they're right.
I have to say this here because it's driving me crazy I can't say it elsewhere. I agree that Australia, the UK and the US invaded Iraq. I think it's horrible people are killed during this conflict; especially women, children, and civillians who have absolutely no choice or options. But I believe Saddam Hussein was a truly horrible man, and the things he did to his people were horrific and inhumane. I think the media and the general public (well, the outspoken, young and ignorant part on the whole) has made the leaders of these three countries into money hungry arseholes, and perhaps, in part, that is true, but I believe that saving these people from a LEADER who mistreated his own people is a good cause.
Perhaps it's easier for us to forget that in places like Africa and the Middle East, people are dying, tortured, daily, because of tyrants and corrupt officials, and can do nothing about it; much of the moeny sent for aid is squandered by corrupt officials and politicians, while the people who need the help, those who are starving, get little or nothing. When WE'RE not responsible or involved or associated, it's easy to ignore. But when we get involved (which may or may not be the "right" thing to do), that makes US look bad because WE are killing people.
Death is rarely a good thing; often sad and painful and horrific; affecting many people. It annoys me that Howard and Blair and Bush are getting flack from the media for sending our troops over there and ...
well, there may be many holes in this but I have about 2 minutes before my internet credit runs out so I can't yet elaborate.
What do you think?
