News from Nerdland on which I have opinions

(After a bit of a lull while Dice and I were having hellishly busy and exhausting weeks, The Black Crayon is updating again, and you should check it out and/or consider joining us.)

1. Everyone and their nerdy gamer grandma is probably aware that, after the totally definitive last version of Persona 3 that was Persona: FES, it's getting ported to the PSP ... with a female protagonist, a male version of Elizabeth, and, presumably, the chance to sex up Akihiko and /not/ sex up a goddamn robot. Since a lot of the social links in Persona 3 were ... lackluster, to say the least, I'm not sure how much, if anything, is going to be changed up by the protagonist's change of gender (not to mention, her character design is ... not outstanding). Everyone is, I'm sure, delighted by the prospect of being asked by Atlus to /once more/ purchase Persona 3.

Personally, I would be more interesting in a) a /new/ game with a female protagonist or b) them porting, oh, the Devil Summoner remake for PSP or porting the Persona 2s to PSP or damn near anything else that isn't /Persona 3 again/. It's like I'm looking into a strange mirror universe where Atlus has decided that the greatest financial success is going to be by copying some of Squeenix's more irritating habits.

(On the other hand, Disgaea 2 is coming out for the PSP ... next week, and I am seriously considering picking it up, even though I have never finished a Nippon Ichi ever, including the first Disgaea, which was also the /first PS2 game I ever owned/.)

2. Apparently, Bart Allen, my very favourite superhero, is back after an extended hiatus where he /mysteriously disappeared/ after Young Justice was cancelled and was replaced by a doppleganger who could convince no one he was really Bart Allen (which is ridiculous, because every single Flash character ever has an evil doppleganger, so the assumption that a change in behaviour is the result of an evil twin/clone/mirrorverse duplicate, should be the conclusion everyone jumps to when the hero starts behaving oddly). I am not speaking to current DC and haven't for quite a while, but a number of my friends, powered by an optimism I am not capable of mustering, continue to follow various titles, and so I continue to become ... aware of developments.

Plus, I'm a nerd on the internet.

So, Bart Allen is back (but not, I suspect, as Impulse, because DC doesn't want me to be happy) and will be in the near future getting his own solo title again.

I don't know how I feel about this. Dubious? Wary? Inclined to put my fingers in my ears and hum because American superhero comics are just a mess no matter how you spin it? I suppose we'll see how things look when it launches, but expecting it to be good is ... not really possible.

I am naturally a bitter old porch squattin' nerd, yelling at kids to get off my damn fandom lawn, even in areas I've only become familiar with since moving out of my parents' house.
