This is all Erika's fault

SO HOW ABOUT THAT NEW TV SEASON.

I have not paid any attention to it yet.

I have, however, watched the first episode of the BBC's new series about Merlin.

It's called Merlin.

Merlin is to Arthurian legend as Smallville is to the Superman mythos.

So, terrible, gay, and, if you have company (and maybe booze), /hilarious/.

Seriously, every plot point is like an exercise in /terrible hilarity/.

And homosexuality.

Merlin is comprised of all those bits you forgot about the Arthurian legends.

For instance, the bit where Merlin is an incompetent, emu teenager when he first meets Arthur (who is an obnoxious prince who throws knives at the servants for fun and tries to take off Merlin's head with a morning star).

Or the bit where Merlin and Arthur are TREMENDOUSLY GAY for each other.

Or the bit where Giles from Buffy the Vampire Slayer is Uther Pendragon, Arthur's Completely Not Dead Father, who happens to be the evil dictator of England Albion who has, for the past twenty years set out to eradicate magic from the land.

This takes the form of people who are accused of withcraft being publicly beheaded. Then King Uther Giles throws a party to celebrate the beheading.

Merlin must hide his secret of INNATE UNTRAINED MAGIC or else he could be BEHEADED.

Merlin uses magic at every turn and this will certainly not cause trouble in his future.

Teenaged Emu Merlin has conversations with his mentor, Gaius Gayus, about magic that can be easily (and hilariously!) interpreted as a metaphor for homosexuality.

There's also John Hurt the Last Bad CGI Dragon who speaks to Merlin in his sleep and summons him into the cave where King Uther Giles chained him up to tell him about his IMPORTANT DESTINY.

Also, Guenevere is Morgan La Fey's Not White maid.

Guest starring Eve Myles and her adorably gappy teeth!
