Maybe this is a sign

So, it is a long weekend. I slept in, because I have not had a proper night's sleep in over a week, and it is vaguely, unpleasantly warm. My foot, however, is not bothering me too much. I decide to do some of the cleaning my apartment desperately needs.

When I get into the bedroom, I do the 'putting away laundry a week late' dance and notice, as I do so, that Ivan is really keen on getting into the drawer. This is not unusual. I plop him down on the floor and carry on. As I shut the dresser drawer, I notice something.

Ivan has pulled the cheap plywood backing on one of the dressers off and is happily climbing in through the new door.

While, yes, a cat curled up in your dresser drawer /is/ cute, having your black pants covered in a thick coating of white cat hair when you have to leave the apartment for work in ten minutes isn't exactly fun mornings.

I actually have two dressers - I've had them since I moved to Saskatoon. One is cheap plywood, four drawers, only two of which have ever been usable. The bottom of the top is now hanging by a single nail, which makes opening it very fun. The other dresser is wood, I think, and was taken from the garage of one of my dad's friends. It has six drawers, two of which can't be opened because of how the wood has warped over the years, and a broken mirror on the back.

I strongly suspect I need to swallow my impoverished student tendencies, ball up, and buy a new piece of furniture to replace these rather bulky pieces of shit.

Being without a vehicle, I'm sure this will be fun, easy, and cheap.
