Mom got transferred from the hospital to the nursing home today to start her rehabilitation. I really don't know how she can rehabilitate when they haven't really fixed what is wrong, but they didn't want to release her to go home yet. I have tried to explain to them but I'm not sure they know how little function my mother has. They say she needs to get up and eat meals in the dining room. At home she eats all of her meals in bed. She does manage when we go out to eat, but she is so weak and her condition was getting worse even before this last crisis. If this hurts her too much or they decide there is nothing they can do I will bring her back to her house and work things out there. She complains because they don't come fast enough and she wants her hot pockets. The food they bring makes her gag. She said "They're going to make me eat meals with all those old people." Mom is 82 and the women in the room is the same age. Mom looks at least 30 years younger and has no wrinkles at all. She has beautiful skin, she always has. Sometimes it's easy to forget how old she is. Many of those "old" people are probably younger than her.
I already had a frantic call from my sister when she was there to visit. They hadn't gotten mom's medicine in yet and she was hurting. I grabbed some pergocet and hurried over. They were giving her the pills as I came in. I was glad because they were sure to frown on me giving her meds from home.
Charlie and I went to Richmond to eat at MCL cafeteria. I just wanted to go as far away as I could. It is only about 30 miles, but it's in another state so I felt like we had a little trip. It was nice but, relatives kept calling my cell about mom all the way on the drive there. I guess I'll rest when I die.
I got all my bill made out tonight and stamped and I got some of my housework done. Now I'm just going to chill for a while. I'm considering making a quick visit to the home before I go to bed tonight since it is her first night there.
