DO SOMETHING!!!!
Capital District Federation of Ideas will host a potluck dinner and "gather stuff" party for residents adversely affected by the fire at 598 Madison and the subsequent burglaries that have occurred at adjacent properties.
If you have not heard, on December 11th, at about 3:30 AM, a fire broke out at 598 Madison and ravaged an apartment building to a severe degree. The building had to be demolished because it was unsalvageable after the fire. During the period of waiting for 598 Madison to be demolished, residents were not allowed to return to the neighboring 594 and 600 Madison properties. While residents were not allowed to return to their homes at 594 and 600, burgulars broke in and stole lots of stuff.
This story from the Times Union on Saturday further explains this situation:
http://timesunion.com/AspStories/story.asp?storyID=647458&category=ALBANY&BCCode=&newsdate=12/16/2007 So, CDFI will be having a dinner where people can make financial donations, contributions of various goods, or just come and show support for people in your neighborhood. WE NEED SOME GOOD CHEER, our friends' homes just burned down! And someone just jumped off the 787! WHatttt!?!?! Seriously.
For this dinner, CDFI will make some large entrees, but anyone is welcome to bring dishes to pass.
Anything you think that is appropriate to making a bad situation such as this better is welcome--there are many possibilities. Maybe come and play some dinner music!
Items for contribution might include:
-clothes (598 residents lost really nearly EVERYTHING)
-extra toiletries of all types
-dishes, kitchenwares
-books
-warm winter stuff!
-pet supplies for dogs and cats
-infant supplies (at least one person is pregnant)
-toys for children (at least one person has children)
-i'm sure you can think of lots of things....
