Question for Android power users regarding rooting

Dec 26, 2011 08:43

I've got a Nexus S 4G, and want to root it so I can install adblocker and wifi tethering apps. I'm not an advanced user, so I'm worried about screwing something up and bricking it.

I've done some googling on rooting this phone, and there seems to be two methods. One involves installing a bunch of things to the pc, rom flashing, and quite a few steps, while the other is a simple "unzip this exe file and run it while tje phone is connected" instant root. (I already have pdanet, so that step is removed in both processes)

Are there potential risks to using the easy one-click method? Here's the site that offers the link to the program: www.addictivetips.com/mobile/root-sprint-nexus-s-4g-with-a-single-click-guide/

It was the top google search result for nexus s 4g root, so I doubt it's malware.

Somewhat unrelated question: I already use pdanet for tethering, but want to do wifi tethering for convenience, but I came across a message board posting that said it's easier for carriers to sniff out unauthorized tethering when using wifi, and that pdanet masks it a lot better. Any truth to that?
