Returning and empty handed.
I walk down the sidewalk that leads to the hotel empty handed. I had failed Cordy and I couldn't let that go. I had given her a promise. The promise to find her and this electric bitch intercepts me, twice now. Damn unhelpful axis. I walk up the steps into the hotel and Fred slams the phone down and walks over to me.
"Angel!" She yells and then calls back into the hotel, "Charles! Angel is back!" She stands in front of me her eyes asking if I know and her nouth not daring. But Gunn comes down the stairs and asks for her.
"Yo Angel. So, did you find her?" I can't really say anything. How can you say, no I failed. We have to keep looking. I just look down confirming my failure. I sigh and walk over to the round couch and sit at the edge hunched over.
"Angel. We can look for her other ways." Fred says imploring me not to give up. "Look, I found out what powers these Axis have." She says as she runs over to several papers she printed. She brings them back and hands them to me, standing over me and explaining what she's found. "It's supposed to find that which is lost. Or missing. So the reason the first axis sent you to the second is because there is something else missing. You can use the first one again. You just have to find what it showed you!"
I look up from the papers and put the papers next to me. "Fred, it showed me the second axis."
"Well, where is it?" Gunn asks coming over and shadowing Fred. He holds her shoulders and looks at me.
"It's ... in pieces." I say as I stand up and exhale.
"That's ok." Fred says grabbing her papers up and turning around. "On the inside there should be a sort of glyph of something. And THAT is what you're supposed to find. That's why the first axis took you to the second." I looked up and smiled hugging Fred. "Thanks Angel." She says as I continue to embrace her.
Gunn comes over and pryes me off. "Hands off my girl Angel." He says only half jokingly.
I get into the car and speed off to the other museum. The axis would probabally still be lying there. The smell of sewage still followed me everywhere. I make it back in record time and walk over to the broken pieces of axis. I kneel down and turn them around and sure enough the three pieces have a sphinx on the bottom.
I'm in the car and on the phone in seconds with Fred. "Ok, there is a sphinx at the Natural History Museum exhibiting this week. All you have to do...is touch it. I think. But you better bring it back here." She says into the phone. "Actually...you might try breaking it....but that seems inconclusive. I don't know if that would make it constitute as found. So, just try to bring it back.
I head over to The Natural History museum making it inside easily knocking out the guard who came to the door. As I walk in I spot Gwen leaving her cab...why is she here?!
I shake my head and run in using employee only stairs to cut her off before she gets their. I break the inside panel so she can't get in the staircase and will have to take the elevator. Now...to the third floor.
