Personality:
Kame’s motto…well, he doesn’t have a motto…but if he did, it would be “anything I receive, I should accomplish myself”. On the surface: professional, hardworking, eager to please and polite. Never a hair out of place, never a misplaced comment, never anything less than a smile and soothing words, he worked his way up the Host Club ladder in a matter of months. His customers generally tend to become steady, regular ones, earning him extra points with the management. His selling point is his ability to charm his customers with words, which is unusual and prompts both intrigue and disdain from his colleagues. Kame is reserved and introverted and often passes off social events with his colleagues, unwilling to extend any friendships (he’s fine alone, you know that right?).

To his juniors, he is a role model - always polite and encouraging but from a distance. He doesn’t have anyone he’s really close to in the agency but maintains an acquaintanceship with his fellow Normal Level hosts. He treats his seniors with neutral respect and deference, but keeps his distance; he has an instinct when it comes to self-preservation. Survival and good relationships are everything in his book. He’s uncomfortable with passionate advances and takes criticism to the point of overworking himself to correct them. And somewhere, somewhere down there, there’s a voice that tells him there’s something he’s missing (he still goes to that nightclub that started it all - just sitting down and having a cocktail you know, feeling the beat of the dance floor and the pulse of the music and never standing up to dance)

Journal Entry
I’ve got a census to complete by Monday and Koji and Yuuya are coming over for dinner - I’ll have to see if I can reserve a table at that restaurant I tried out on Tuesday. I can’t believe Hiroki-sensei assigned us another census after we’d just finished our presentations last week. It’s the last thing I need right now.

There’ve been influxes of novices in Starstruck now that applications are open again. Several people were moved up to the normal rank. Of course, everyone knows there has to be an absolute flood of people before someone is moved up to becoming a Head. Well, not long now…

The revolving door caught the light inside as Kame stepped in and closed his umbrella. The wide foyer was a little more crowded than usual - boys decked out in an array of clothes, from oversized hoodies to leather, bling and denim, were standing at tables and lounging in chairs. Novices, obviously.

They always came in packs and always made a mess of the foyer. There were clear ‘ringleaders’ of the lot - the boys who were probably a little older than the rest (maybe his age, give or take) were leaning a little more comfortably against the suede couches, looking a little more carefully disinterested. Of course, they were probably oblivious to the trails of dirty water they were leaving on the fur carpet - the doormats were there for a reason after all - but, no matter, they’d have regulations drilled into them soon enough.

Smiling a little at the faces of the boys, who were all absolutely terrified but trying-and failing-to put on a bravado, Kame turned and walked up the marbled steps with a careless flicker of his bag strap. It was times like this he understood the necessity of having two entrances into the Host Club.

He stopped by the preparation room only to change into his clothes and double check his appearance, thankfully not touched by rain. Kyoko, the makeup artist, threw him a grateful look as she attempted to spike up the drenched hair of one of his colleagues - Kazuya couldn’t quite tell hair gel from water.

Kazuya tugged at his collar one final time. “Have a good evening,” he called, out of courtesy, to Kyoko and her subject. They echoed his greeting as Kazuya walked into the hallway. He entered the vastly more extravagant guests lobby and greeted the receptionist. Scanning the list of his customer’s names, he made his way towards the guest lounges. Erika-san was first, as usual. He’d grown long used to her overzealous attendance every time he had a shift. He sighed a little, seeing the usual regulars lined up in black font beneath Erika-san’s name…and then a new one. ‘Hiroto Rumi.’

Hmm…well, this will be interesting.

Tedious, maybe, but it was the company’s policy to assign the ‘higher quality’ customers (bluntly put) to the higher ranking hosts. Smiling slightly at this, Kame took a smooth turn into the designated lounge. “Good evening Erika-san.”

The woman in the centre of the group of three smiled in return, holding out a black-gloved hand. He took the offered hand, thumb brushing lighting across the jewellery adorning her fingers. Swarovski, he noted the new addition and made a side note to compliment her choice. The two guests Erika-san had brought along weren’t too bad either, judging by the whiff of Elizabeth Arden and Prada handbag one was displaying and the shimmering black evening gown the other was wearing (Dolce and Gabbana he noted in his mental list of compliments). Judging by the shine in the two guests’ eyes, Kazuya could tell they’d quite…taken to this place already. Putting on a smile, he greeted each woman with a kiss on the hand.

“Kazuya is my regular host,” Erika-san introduced. Kame caught the slight inflection on ‘my’ and smiled a little to himself. The guests were most likely business partners’ wives, sisters or something of the sort. He mapped out a plan for the session as the women talked among themselves - perhaps a compliment here and there to start new threads of conversation but to also maintain the aloofness of a ‘possession’ Erika-san was obviously hoping for.

The hour-and-a-half (but really fifteen minutes more) passed quickly, though the conversation was predictable - small talk about fashion, business and food, coupled with the selections of champagne and small appetizers. Such was Erika-san’s style. Kazuya finished the session by helping the women out the door and kissing Erika-san delicately on the cheek (he always initiated kisses, never received). He bowed and kept his face smooth as she hurriedly fumbled through her purse, red-faced. He watched them leave before turning to his new customers, fresh smile on his face and words waiting to enchant.

Such was his style, after all.
