Drafts for the Time Traveling Machine.. ---[MTR Drabble]

Apr 15, 2007 09:41

I really couldn't resist writing drabbles for this fandom after watching it yesterday~♥ So without further delay, I have a drabble here.

Since I think that Cornelius is on a different time line, because it seems like he never had young!Lewis visit him, I based my drabble on what I believe to be a different time line where Lewis - with his memories of the future - grows up. So it's set after the movie, yes. And Cornelius is the one without the future memories, while Lewis is the one with the future memories. So I will be referring to Lewis instead of Cornelius in this drabble.

Title: Affection
Characters: Future!Lewis, Wilbur
Pairings: No matter how much you squint, you won't see any pairing.. but there might be the barest whiff of one... *is shot*
Genre: semi!Friendship, slight!angst.. father/son relationship?
Rating: G
Word Count: 684
Summary: Wilbur wonders what it is about his father that is nagging at him, while Lewis wonders what it would have been like.
Disclaimer: Not mine. Yeah.

Wilbur could feel his father's eyes lingering on him longer than usual today, and it made him self-conscious, not because he was doing anything wrong, but it was because he wasn't doing anything wrong. He threw a narrow-eyed look at his father and then turned back to the homework that he was trying to do, not very successfully. His father had invited him to his lab to do his homework, so that if he had any questions he could ask him, but so far, the homework was just too... easy. He just couldn't be bothered with it at all. His father though, there was something about him that made Wilbur want to have a crack at trying to understand him. The looks that his father sent him when he thought that Wilbur wasn't paying attention, the fatherly hugs that were given to him out of nowhere. Really, what was it about his father that just intrigued him so much? His father had never actually paid him much attention when he was growing up, and at 13 years, he felt resentment towards him. Why did he spend so much more time in his lab than with him? He knew it was an irrational resentment, but he wanted his father to pay more attention to him than to his inventions. He felt like.. he felt like they should have been the best friends, but there was just something that prevented him from wondering how they could possibly....

He felt that tell-tale prickle of being watched again.

Just what did his father know that he didn't?

--------------------------

Lewis couldn't help staring at his son whenever they were together. Wilbur was the one that had introduced him to what a family had felt like, and he would never ever forget that feeling. It was true that Lewis had the future he wanted now, but he missed having Wilbur as his best friend. Because he had been too absorbed in working on his inventions to create a better future for Wilbur, he did not spend more time with him and regretted that. Their relationship was not as best friends, but only as a distant and eccentric father to a son that didn't understand him. They should have been the best of friends if he had stayed in the future, but if he hadn't traveled back to the past, Wilbur wouldn't have existed. So for now, he could only be content with watching his son and giving him hugs when he felt like it.

Wilbur started shifting restlessly and he knew that he had been staring too long when Wilbur threw a narrow-eyed glare at him. Smiling gently at him, Lewis turned his attention back to the drafts of the time machines he had been planning to make for the past few days. His eyes shifted back to looking at Wilbur when Wilbur turned his attention back to his homework. The briefest question flitted through his mind. Was it such a good idea to make the time machines? After all, Wilbur didn't have any reason to go back in time to find the twelve years old Lewis with Goob no longer harboring any resentment towards him. DOR-15 hadn't been invented as well so that other danger had already been avoided.

What could go wrong with him inventing a time machine? He wanted Tiny to be their house pet again, and he wondered if he could somehow implant the idea of wanting to go into the past to get a dinosaur into Wilbur's brain. Speaking of which, was it possible to invent something that could implant ideas into people's brain? Criminals could be easily reformed if they had the correct morals implanted into them... Lewis shook his head. It was thoughts like that, that had led him to creating DOR-15. Hoping that he wasn't making a mistake in creating the time machines, Lewis finally turned his attention away from Wilbur and back to the calculations needed involving time travel.

The machines were dangerous, it was true, but he could only hope that Wilbur would not carelessly leave the garage doors open again...
