Exactly! You'd think that two people whose humanity could be disputable, and neither of them being the picture of psychic health XD, have little chance of creating happy and peaceful relationship ^_^'.
You're right - they ARE inhuman. In Hidan's case what really freaks me out is not his immortality but complete lack of the instinct for self-preservation. I mean, masochism is one thing but stabbing yourself through various body parts on a daily basis is a completely different story! o_O And it's not like he enjoys every kind of pain or is immune to it. Really, even if he is a mystic, he must be pretty INSANE to go on like this! No wonder he said he'd be happy if someone could kill him for real! o_o ...
Oops... I digressed -_-' Anyway, what I was going to say is that you can show his insanity, this constant inner tension, perfectly :) And while I like the "original" Hidan, I absolutely adore your interpretation of this character! <3 Also, after reading quite a lot of KakuHidan fics and doujinshis, I could appreciate even more your version of their relationship. I really like the "non-fluff"-ness XD of your fics (no fluff, but full of passion. YES. That suits this pairing so much better :), and even more the fact that you don't follow uke/seme stereotype. It's always annoyed me that in most of yaoi stories so-called "uke" tend to be invariably meek, submissive and, for the lack of better word, "effeminate" -_-. Happily your Hidan is so different from them!
I've read again the "Immortals Arc" recently and in manga Kakuzu's dominance and "leadership" of their team seem to be quite clear, if not completely stable (what with Hidan constantly questioning it XD). I love it how you show this dominance isn't absolute, that sometimes Kakuzu is defenceless against Hidan :) But as you wrote - night reveals everything and there are no winners in this game (I absolutely LOVE the last but one paragraph <3).
Thank you again for this beautiful drabble - the more I read it the more I like it ^_^

PS I've just previewed this comment - o_O it really IS too long! Sorry! -_-

You make such good points, I completely agree with everything you said about Hidan-he IS a deeply disturbing character! What I find compelling as well is how he seems to have chosen his immortality, he takes it for granted and seems at times to cherish (really not the right word here, but its all I can come up with) it. But yet he says that he would love to have someone kill him for good, which suggests that he didn't choose the path of immortality. At times it seems like he did choose it though, as if he is happy with the situation. I'd love to know the reasoning behind that; did he choose to be immortal? Or was it thrust upon him?
Personally I think this could be a Kishimoto brand plot hole. But Hidan seems contradictory at best, and I wish I could understand him better. Writing him only seems to add more layers of confusion!
To tell you the truth I've never really "gotten" the uke/seme thing. I mean, I know what it means but I've never applied it to my writing. I'm sure that sometimes those stereotypes do happen in real life, but I certainly doubt that they are a common occurence! And even more so with KakuHidan-I like to push it to the extremes with those two, kind of mix it up and confuse everyone even more :P
The same train of thought seems to apply to Kakuzu's leadership role...nothing works out perfectly, and people never fit into any type of roles. And with the two of them being immortal, sterngth is no object. So even though Kakuzu seems to be the stronger of the two he will never get a leg-up on Hidan, who's jutsu is pretty much foolproof and who cannot be killed.
Thank you so much for your comments! I'm so glad you like the drabble ♥
Phew...this one's pretty long too XD Eek!
