Living in the shadow..

I just went through 100 LJ entries, and it took an hour, lol. It's good to see you all are using LJ effecively ;)

Anyway, I'm back from my field trip! It was a bunch of fun.

On Saturday I woke up at 5:15am, got ready, had breakfast and got to the airport at 6.20am. Some of my friends were already there and we just talked until the rest of the people arrived. We had to get there at 6.30am but a group of boys came at 7 and lied that they had an accident and thats why they were late! Turns out they went for breakfast! Lol.

We went in, got our luggage checked and all that and boarded the plane. We played cards and talked and an hour and 15 minutes later we arrived in Lahore. The airport is REALLY nice, it's all marble and granite inside and it's made of red bricks. We don't see very many red bricks in Karachi; not many at all infact. But in Lahore majority of the big buildings are like that. It took about 20 - 25 minutes to get to the airport, I spent that time just looking out of the window - a change of scenery is always nice. Lahore has a lot of greenery, lots of trees, grass, etc as compared to Karachi. That's the main difference between the two cities.

The hotel was big, and had a sort of luxurious feel to it. We rested in our room for about an hour then went sightseeing. The first place we went to was Badshahi Mosque. It's HUGE, it's the biggest mosque I've ever seen! We had to take our shoes off, and we walked barefoot on the hot ground. Ouch, it burned but only for a bit, then there was marble flooring which was a lot cooler. We then went to Lahore Fort, which is where the Mughal Emporers (the people who ruled many years ago) used to live. The tourist gave us a lot of interesting information about it. Now, it's all ruins - thye haven't preserved it but it's still something. They were very rich, and loved their wives very much, they gave them whatever they wanted. One wife wanted to feel as if she was sitting on the clouds, so her husband made the flooring of the palace like clouds, and he had water run under it all the time so it remained cold. Isn't that cool?

When we got to Pizza Hut for lunch we were all dying of thirst!! It was SO hot outside, but when we got to Pizza Hut it was a huge relief for us, we knew we were going to get water and food. I was sitting with my group, Hana and Romisa were there too. Only 7 people could sit on that table, then Aarish (who is MADLY in love with Hana) came sat on the sofa-bench next to Hana. I was sitting at the head of the table, then he goes "Let me sit there because Sir Lobo won't like me sitting with Hana". So I was planning to switch with him when I realised there was no place there AT ALL. I really do hate Aarish. Not only because of that, just in general. Only a few people like him so it's all good. So I went and sat with the teachers and some of my guy friends...it was fun :)

After Pizza Hut we went back to the hotel, had a shower, changed and went shopping. I bought shoes for myself my sister, and clothes for my mum. The beggars in Lahore are mostly little kids and they tug at your clothes, tap you on your arm and I don't know what! It was so wierd! A lot of people got scared. The beggars over here don't touch you, they just....beg, lol. The guys were good about it though - they were very protective which was good, of course.

The next day we went to the Museum. They had an art section which I found very interesting and there were many beautiful paintings there. After that we went to Raffay's farm. It isn't exactly a farm, it's just a large piece of land covered with grass and there's a pond with ducks and there are a few animals there too....peacocks and rabbits. Very pretty. It was boring though - the boys swam and played cricket and we just sat around talking. From there we went to the Wagha Border. That's the border which separates India from Pakistan, it was an amazing experience...India on one side, Pakistan on the other. There was a flag lowering ceremony at 5pm. You see, everyday, in the morning each country hoists their flag and in the evening they lower it. Every single day. It's tradition I guess, I don't know why they really do it but it's very interesting to watch because everyone is very spirited and all that. Amazing.

On Monday we went to Aitchison College. It's HUGE!! It's like a city of it's own! They have horse tables, a gigantic swimming pool, huge hall, and the architecture of this building is fantastic! It's beautiful. It's really old too. Even my dad went to Aitchison so I really liked it there. After that we went to LUMS, another College which is supposed to be very good, it's ok though.

We then went to Shaukat Khanum Cancer Hospital. 10 years ago, this cricket player Imran Khan built it for his mother because she had cancer and died from it. It's a hospital which offers cancer treatment free of charge (for those who can't afford it). We collected money and donated it to them, for which they were very grateful. We then got McDonalds, went to the airport after collecting our luggage from the hotel, and boarded the plane.

It was definitely a trip I'll never forget, I'm so glad I went, even though there were some annoying people throughout it.
