generally, in a counseling relationship, licensed mental health professionals (psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, counselor's...) have what's called legal privelege. this means that no matter what any client says to them, they are legally bound by law not to disclose it unless the person threatens harm to someone else or him/herself, or by a court order. if a cop walked up to you and asked about a client suspected of a crime, you couldn't tell them jack shit unless they had a court order. but, as my textbook just said "however, when these professionals are conducting groups, in many states this legal privelege does not apply."
bummer, huh?
