i just developed this new habit of staring at the back of men's heads. probing their hair as if it was some alien territory, and from afar, it looked like it truly was. i could see healthy prairies, savannahs toasted from the mid-day sun, terrains with uneven distribution of vegetation. sprouting like bountiful bushes or dying down like a denuded plantation. grasses partially lawnmowed, weeds in a forgotten garden. headquarters of hay - too bristly and scraggy that looking at it alone would trigger an itching sensation to the beholder while others glisten like livid metal, too smooth as if the strands had compounded flawlessly. i imagine people of microscopic size fording through the miniature forestry, mountaineers making their ascent from the nape to the peak, panting in between holding on to the blades and stepping on flaky scalps.
