What are some of the really great, unforgettable books you've read recently?
i've been bingeing on ALICE MUNRO books lately because i only discovered her greatness last year. i love short stories and there's just something incomparably awesome about hers. also i've been reading a lot of gina apostol and wilfrido nolledo, with me being a big supporter of philippine lit :) a friend introduced me to the works of patrick white and he's one author i'm excited to explore more!

What books changed your life? :)
for starters, i loved "cousins" by virginia hamilton, the YA book that totally started my love for reading and writing. others worth mentioning because they're absolute favorites/they just move my life one way or another: white oleander by janet fitch, mens rea and other stories and jungle planet and other stories by lakambini sitoy, atonement by ian mcewan, the english patient by michael oondatje, fannie flagg's super hilarious novels, stephen king's on writing, history of love by nicole krauss, the reader by bernard schlink, the gathering by anne enright, margaret atwood's the edible woman, AND SO MUCH MORE! :) Hee. excited to explore your tumblrs and know about yours! :)

Who is your absolute favorite author?
Lakambini Sitoy...plus MORE! :) haha hirap to pin down just one no? but i'm so happy to meet someone who likes books, too! ♥ kwentuhan tayo hee! :)

OHMYGOD I *was re-reading Lakambini Sitoy's Jungle Planet a few minutes ago, so this was really serendipitous! Last night I was tickled pink to discover that the newly-opened Bo's Coffee in Powerbooks allowed readers to bring in unpurchased books (or maybe we were able to get away with it, haha) so I've read a lot of books by Pinoy authors. :)
I love that coincidence so much! :)
Anyway, I have The Moons of Jupiter by Alice Munro at home, but I haven't read it yet. I'm going to give it a go tonight, so we can talk about it in the future. I'm also going to research those writers you've mentioned, I always love discovering new favorite authors. I love Sitoy, Fannie Flagg, Atwood and Stephen King, among others. I also love YA lit, Judy Blume, Francesca Lia Block, David Levithan, Julie Anne Peters and Lois Lowry are some of the YA lit authors I love. How about you? :)

WOOHOO! :) i'm glad you're reading jungle planet. my most fave in that collection is "Shut up and live," and i'm even planning of naming my future daughter after the protagonist haha!:) i love francesca lia block and lois lowry too! there's another YA writer whose works have left me speechless: laurie halse anderson.

wow sige sige! i havent updated my book blog in months so joining the group would urge me to go back to the groove :)

do get gina apostol's bibliolepsy! it's a book about books so you'd love it! ALSO: feast and famine by rosario cruz lucero and anything by sarge lacuesta ♥

Ang fave ko dun na story Denial, Denial. Sa sobrang gusto ko sya, sawang-sawa na officemates ko when I bug them to read it (Me: Promise, maiksi lang yan, favorite ko yan! Them: Napabasa mo na sakin yan e.) in the office, haha.

Ooh, books about books! Just the thought of it excites me immensely! Thanks for the recommendations, will start searching for those books.

Ang recent obsession ko din pala foodie essays by Doreen Fernandez. I have my mom's old copy of Sarap and I like reading it while eating, nakakagana e :) Hey, today is Fail/Flail Friday and also Foodie Friday at booklat, so please feel free to share books you're currently digging or any food-related passages in books. :)
