OMG YOU GUYS. Just, omg.
EVERYTHING IS PANIC! AND NOTHING HURTS.
Sooo, I went to see Panic! at House of Blues last night. I met up with Kadie (@prettyprincessk) for dinner at 4:30 at Boston Beer Works (omg nom blueberry ale). We were surrounded by baseball fans because there was a Sox game yesterday too. (Which meant everything was crowded and a disaster, blah).
We got in line a little after 6pm. And by line, I mean down a shady alley with a left past the dumpster to go hangout by the train tracks. /classy. Fortunately, we didn't have to wait long. And of course we got to watch everyone walk past, which is the best part. I still felt totally uncool in a sea of teenagers (see: MCR concert) but there was actually more of a crowd diversity than expected. My theory being that they have been around long enough that people who were in middle/high school when they first started are now older, which balances out all the teens who are just fans now.
So yes, we found ourselves a little step up halfway back on the floor and settled in to wait. :3 There were 2 openers.
Opener One: Foxy Shazam
Um... they were weird, I don't know what to think about what I saw. They were high energy... but instead of pumping me up... they just made me kinda nervous? The keyboard player liked to... play backwards and upside down. And he keeps physically standing on the keyboard (which was on a stand) to stomp around on it. I just keep waiting for him to die. And they had a trumpet player who kept... throwing his trumpet. Which really just made me twitchy. It was interesting and I can't say that I am a better person for the experience. They also liked to spit a lot, which was just kinda gross?
Opener Two: fun.
So this band lived up to their name. High-energy with none of that nervous tension. I also really liked a lot of the songs I heard, so I will definitely be checking them out. They ALSO has some sort of trumpet-like brass instrument (I like those) and it was just really fun. They recorded something with Panic! recently too, so I will have to check that out. I can't really comment on them since I didn't even know they existed before like 2 weeks ago, but the girl next to me was reeeally into them, so yay!
Then Kadie and I sat on the floor of HoB for like 20 minutes because our feet hurt a lot.
OKAY TIME FOR THE FLAILY PART OF THIS RECAP.
I saw Panic on the Honda Civic tour like...... 3(?) years ago and I honestly barely remember it. I just went and found my lj entry about the concert... and there are no details. *woe* Shame on you, past self.
The set design was AWESOME omg. Bunch of lightbulbs hanging from the ceiling, lit up drums, etc etc. It was all very steampunky, which is just A+++ in my book.
Aaaahhh my thoughts are going like 8439240932 directions. Let's see. Played a nice mix of songs from Fever and from V&V. They played..... two(?) songs from P.O. in the middle. I haven't heard 9 in the Afternoon is sooo long, so that was fun. Brendon definitely pulled a ninja-move on everyone partway through the show. The band had all left the stage, so we're all staring at this empty stage with lots of flashing lights... and then all of a sudden Brendon is talking from somewhere. Then he did Always with only his guitar while standing in the soundbooth cage area. (Given that we were standing pretty much next to this section... excellent).
The banter was really fun too. Partway through the show, Kadie turns to me and says "Yup. fic!Brendon is exactly the same as real!Brendon" (This was a concern) Basically, he is just horribly inappropriate all the time and it just makes me want to pet him. At one point we got a story about how he broke his toe while doing a backflip and landing on someone else's foot. At which point he decided that it would have to go. Then Spencer suggested that they cut it off on stage right then, which just turned into a silly conversation and the conclusion that they would cut ~something off during the third encore, which would happen 2 hours after the show was over. (lol boys).
Um um... I dunno I think I just have a lot of feelings. They did a Smiths cover, which was really so very sexual and I was just standing there like, oh god I think i'm having a ~moment someone hold me. AND CARRY ON MY WAYWARD SON WAS ONE OF THE ENCORE SONGS AND OH GOD MY HEART. I still SEE the Guitar Hero notes in my head when I hear that song. The whole thing was inspiring. Ian is a reeeally good guitar player, like holy crap I can't.
... Well this recap has been less informative that I meant it to be. I do know that I felt like I was floating when the show was over, because I was just so happy about everything. I got home and was like, "If Brendon had asked me to walk off a cliff when the show was over, I probably would have done it" because it was just that good.
I have to give a nod to the people in the crowd around us. There was a lot of awesome energy. There was also some amusement in the form of the teens right in front of us who were doing what I'm sure they thought was very ~sexy dancing... but was mostly just funny. There was lots of downward shimmying and hair tousling.
I already want to see them again. -_-;;; COME BACK, PANIC. It's too bad the CT show is on a weekday or I would totally go stay with my parents for a night.
