Dated to Sunday at 10:45 am
After calling Perry the evening before and leaving a message on his answering machine about meeting the following day, Martha drives into town late Sunday morning and manages to snag a parking space on Main Street about half a block from the Talon. She's a little early, which gives her time to find a table about halfway between the door and the staircase; comfortable without being too intimate, and shielded somewhat from the cold air that filters in with every new arrival.
Waving off the waitress who comes over, preferring to wait on ordering until Perry shows up, she extracts a calender book from her purse and flips it open to the upcoming week. There is some lingering guilt for taking off quite so many days this close to the inauguration, but she reminds herself that spending quality time with family and friends helps maintain her emotional balance while away.
She does occasionally look up from jotting down notes whenever someone else enters the shop.
