[OOC: Recently, Steve's best friend, Sam Wilson, a.k.a. The Falcon, showed up. *waves to redwings_sam*

Here is their conversation in Sam's intro thread, in which they argue about Steve's surrender/hiding, and Steve catches him up on everything that's been going on lately. (It's all a bit of a shock to poor Sam's system.) Anyway, in case you don't want to ( Read more... )

Have you forgotten why you went in hiding?

No, I haven't.

I also haven't forgotten securing your promise that all of my friends - with the sole exception of Sharon and other SHIELD agents - would be notified of my survival.

Forgive me, Wilson, if I thought that, your safety was paramount.

Hey, wasn't that the name of the volleyball that Tom Hanks talked to in that movie?

And he was notified.

Once he'd been cleared.

I have no idea what movie you're talking about.

Cleared? You honestly thought Sam would... I can't believe you. I specifically said that I didn't want my closest friends mourning a fake corpse, and you let my best friend go so far as to speak at my funeral, without even telling me that you'd delayed the message.

Who else had to be "cleared" first, Tony? Who else still doesn't know?

Wilson was close to the courthouse on the day it happens and we couldn't get an accurate trace on his whereabouts. It turned out to be a satellite glitch.

Everybody who could safely be reached, and told, was told.

I'm not sure I like that caveat.

Who, exactly, couldn't be "safely reached and told"?

Steve. . .

If you're going to keep these kinds of secrets from me, I might as well be your prisoner again.

If this is really all for my "safety," I deserve to know all the details, if only so that I don't accidentally contact the wrong person.

Oh, don't be so fucking dramatic.

I couldn't exactly get a secure message to the Winter Soldier, could I? As far as we can tell, he's only been in contact with one person, and that's not somebody who's in my fanclub.

I had a feeling you were going to say that.

You're concerned about security, and you let one of America's - and the Soviet Union's - best special ops agents think that the only human being connecting him to humanity is dead? Are you that stupid? He's going to track you down and hurt you, and I'm not going to know what to do.

You could have at least tried, Tony. You have the resources.

Don't you remember how I was, all those years that I thought Bucky was dead? All of that miserable guilt and regret and sadness? Don't you remember how I felt just a few weeks ago, in the other world, when I was remembering his death? We were like brothers during the war, Tony ( ... )

He's not safe, all right. He's a loose cannon.

Is that an honest enough answer for you? When I told you I was going to tell Sam, I meant it; there was a glitch, and it got cleared up, and I told him.

But Bucky's a danger to you.

How could you even think that? He's unstable, yes, but Bucky would never hurt me. Not after everything that's happened.

Think over what you just said and come back to me when you have some kind of objectivity.

starspangledcap June 25 2007, 20:04:22 UTC
I don't need objectivity. I know him. He would never hurt me on his own, and he would end his own life before he'd let himself be brainwashed again.

You'd realize all of that, if you'd been there on that mission.

I really can't believe you'd lie to me about all of this, Tony.

People don't usually decide to let themselves be mind-controlled.

I can't help noticing, whenever you say you can't believe something, you obviously believe it.

Did you have anything else to say?

Maybe I wanted to believe we were above lying to each other at this point. I was apparently mistaken.

You haven't said a word to defend the first thing I mentioned in my initial e-mail.
