"Therefore, the Prajna Paramita is the Great Magic Spell,
The Spell of Illumination, the Supreme Spell,
Which Can Truly Protect One From All Suffering Without Fail."

"Therefore He Uttered the Spell of Prajnaparmita,
Saying Gate, Gate, Paragate, Parasamgate, Bodhi Svaha."

I've heard the Heart Sutra before but only as an addendum to the reading of the first chapter of Liber al vel Legis during the Thelemic Holy Days. This year it resonated so much more with me and I'm aspiring to learn it. If you watched the video you'll see what a daunting task I have laid before me in learning Tibetan chanting. I have plenty of experience vibrating in rituals but this is a different thing altogether.

This specific mantra is self-described as a spell to protect ones self from suffering. So far in my experience with it there is something magickal about it. There are immediate physical, emotional and spiritual effects. I can describe it a little but I am by far no expert on the Heart Sutra.

It seems to invoke an immediate sense of joy and peace being a natural state. Not too elated and not based on any one idea or thing or person. It takes the edge off of happiness in a way.

Sometimes our feelings can fly from one end to the other due to moods, influences and mental state. It's important to continually find your home base. To realize the many possible ways of being naturally and to be able to attack the problems haunting you there has to be a space that's peaceful to retreat to. There are many phases in life and to be able to confront them and be aware of your own being at any moment you have to be connected.

When you mindfully touch something with your finger and you focus on your finger itself you won't feel the texture anymore.
