Last night at Fort Awesome BLOODGEYSER, the all girl, one man, post metal remix band of the century, had their debut. It was the first show that was put together at Fort Awesome, which sits cozily in Nord East Minneapolis.
The first band to play was The Angry Feminists, a guitar and drum duo. I think they were a couple and if they're not, and not siblings, they should definitely get together. Totally cute. The guitar player was good with his axe and the drummer really beat the shit out of her kit, it was nice to hear so much cowbell. I swelled with pride to be a part of the show.
Next was the smoothest transition I ever did see, Fleetwood Marks was up. The drummer and guitar player got to their instruments and started playing along with the first band. It was a nice jam and seriously, one of the best ways to switch sets. (If you don't have anything to set up that is.) Fleetwood was a cover band of another local act called The Talcott Parsons Project who was very influential to the beginnings of Fort Awesome. I think TPP would have been proud of the blokes. The most memorable part, as the beer haze began to rush over me, was Crazy Train blaring through the floor boards. As I wandered down to get a closer look I saw Stormy singing her little heart out, I was filled with joy.
After a bit of set up American Blood & Treasure hit the floor. They had 2 guitarists, bass, keys and a really tall drummer. The singer looked like a young Frank Black but seemed a little shy on the mic. The guitarists had fun and the key man was so relaxed. Playing his keys with one hand and enjoying the fruits of the keg with the other. I admire that in a musician.
Then of course the meaty potatoes of it all, motherfucking BLOODGEYSER. We dominated the whole party, everyone was pretty amazed. We were getting set up and every sound from my guitar illicited screams from girls. I do that to them, don't question it. We got rolling and I was pretty much not nervous at all, anywhere in my being. I had so much damn fun being up there and singing those remixes. We had accomplised what we had set out to do since last June and it was better than I could have expected.
I think there is gonna be a next time. Damn, I hope so.
