So I wandered out yesterday to watch WGC (my old high school and where a couple of my cousins go) at the Big Sing choral festival. Looooved it, but dang did it make me miss choir. My old choir did Telephone, yes by Gaga and Beyonce (though I caught a glimpse of the sheet music and it was the Glee version (not that it changed that much, I guess)), complete with some choreography (rare for Teal) and even props (we never did that). I was warned about it and I was still surprised. It was cute. (And they did two other songs, of course, but I didn't catch those.)
I had mad respect for the Wellington East Girls' choirs (multichoir and the senior choir); I love how full they can get their sound even with less people than Teal (and Teal has got huge this year) (ah, the joys of having more PI girls than white girls in your choir) and their student directors did great (I love a good student director). Until they sat down behind us (yeah, I totally snuck into the auditorium and sat with my old school) and the girls were talking through the other choirs' performances. :/ Between performances, I can understand, but during? Come on.
Onslow sounded great as well; call me judgmental but I'm always surprised when all comers' choirs sound good. And I liked their student composition that was based on dubstep; I'm still surprised they made choral dubstep work. But they fully looked like they'd just come in whatever they'd rocked on up to school in that day. Look, if you're a mufti school, please pull a Glee and pick a unifying color at the least (and jeans is not a unifying color). I could taste the rainbow looking at them. And their director wearing jeggings was also kind of distracting: Just because all I can see of a director is their back doesn't mean I want to see their ass. -_-
One of the changes to WGC's Year 9 options is apparently a choir class, so they performed too. The world needs more Year 9 choirs! They were adorable. And the chamber choir, which my cousin is in, premiered a student composition from the head girl (who is apparently one of those girls who does everything). It was greaaaaaat. Lovely for competition, so much contrast throughout the piece. Loved it.
Speaking of competition pieces, I really just want to ban Hine e Hine and Minoi Minoi from competition. :| One of the Big Sing's rules is that you need to sing something from a New Zealand composer/arranger, and I swear those two songs pop up every damn Big Sing session. There are more New Zealand songs out there, directors! Come on.
In other news: I went in to the hospital today for what I thought was going to be an interview for a volunteer position. I walked out officially a volunteer, with most of the uniform and a hospital ID :) Starting in July (ie. after we get back from the Philippines: it didn't make much sense to me to train for a few days and then wander off on vacation) I'll be a guide at the hospital. Gonna have to learn my way around! Won't be as fun as learning my way around the parks :P I really like the uniform, though; it looks like a flight attendant. Major step up from the Disney costumes. :p And I don't have to cancel my appointment for foils; the boss doesn't "care what color [my] hair is" :D This is such a change from Disney Look. Also, this makes it the second position I've gotten interviewing with my goggles on, whoops. I'd meant to take them off but I forgot...
In yet more news: In a fit of procrastination, I started chucking
Texts From Last Night onto Digimon caps. When I chucked those up on Tumblr, people seemed to like them, so
I made them a dedicated blog. Every time a post goes up the follower count does too and I am still surprised every time o_o
My first. And I had to cap it myself from my tiny files which is why the quality is shitty beyond the usual lol trying to brighten up a night scene.
You cannot convince me that Neon wouldn't do this.
idk whether or not that police car is a Honda but Kouki would.
One of my more popular TFLN. Despite its oversharpening. Thank you, Tumblr, for resizing down so it looks fine.
I'm pretty sure Catherine's Farmville avatar wasn't kidnapped. (Yes yes Farmville didn't exist in 2002; I call
Rule of Funny.)
