6438 words. Come and Deck the Mall!

I'm getting a prize at prizegiving WHOO. Either a Gold Academic Effort Award ("you tried really hard!") and/or three Distinction-type awards. I'm thinking the former.

And our English class had superlatives and an awards ceremony. Having been nominated for Procrastinator of the Year, Most Likely to Become an English Teacher (yeah I'm not quite sure how those two fit together), Loudest (only because I was being loud at the time), Best Uniform, and Most Enthusiastic, I won Most Enthusiastic, and Best Uniform. I'm kind of disturbed by the Best Uniform prize.

Haha, I noticed some thing from school about buying/leasing laptops for IT (which I don't do)/media next year. I would have replied "lol, I've already got one, losers" but Mom apparently replied with an expression of interest.

I have now been on study leave for a day. Sleeping in and then staying in bed is glorious but probably not ideal considering the English exam is next Tuesday. Speaking of exams, do any of my Year 11 homies want to hook up after Level One English, math, and science? If so, go to the Hungarian Garden in Thorndon (across Molesworth Street from New World) once you're out.

Part of my attempts at study has been copying What's Eating Gilbert Grape? from the library video onto a DVD. It's not going well, the DVD recorder keeps pausing recording at random and lengthily. I swear it does it to annoy me.

Had a chat yesterday to Ms. Sutherland about my singing in relation to NCEA performance. Apparently I can keep in pitch very well with myself but not to the accompaniment ("but I can hear you starting to do that in choir"), and need to blend my upper and lower registers more. I can redo Level One performance next year, though I might possibly be able to do Level One and Two at the same time, she isn't sure (me: "My friends at St. Mary's did that."); and if I got a piano teacher again and did piano for performance I wouldn't have any problems cos I did it for so long (well, that's great, I would have little motivation to practise piano). She also said to seriously consider getting a new teacher with Lots of Experience or possibly do singing through school's itinerant music program. Megan was somewhat offended by the itinerant music suggestion, and proceeded to spiel on about why she's better than the itinerant teacher. XD But said she'd give me numbers of Good Teachers if I wanted.

With the possibility of piano for my NCEA performance instrument in mind, I proceeded to plonk away at the piano for an hour this afternoon, playing Vanessa Carlton's White Houses which I tend to play every time I get near a piano, and somewhat sight reading my Grade 4 exam pieces. It was a nice feeling, the discovery that I can still play them vaguely.

You should still all come to Deck the Mall :D the evening performance is at 6:30PM I hear.

I love the Life section of the Dom Post. There was a great article on the rising popularity of lesbian relationships today :P and I also love March of the Penguins, which we watched in SS over the last few days and was adorable (Mr. Beckett: "Please don't write about penguins in the exam...").

Really must remember/get up the balls to ring Porirua Little Theatre about Chicago auditions. Would not know what to do at an audition, having never done one for anything other than school productions and school choirs.

I hadn’t realized until now that I’d completely forgotten about Cody’s party. I spare him a reflexive glance: Still happy, rather drunk; nobody has realized I’m gone. Good. “Actually, I was here for a party - d’you remember a Cody Clairmont: Tall, dark, blue eyes, mate of Hunter-”

“Mate of Hunter McPharlain?” interrupts the ginga. “Looks a bit like Orlando Bloom, but-”

“-is really a total dick?” I finish. “Yeah, that’s the bastard. How were you unfortunate enough to know him?”

She grimaces. “I used to go out with him. It was just for a few months back in seventh form, but it was by far the worst decision of my college career.” I gape at her unattractively - why would anyone (that hot) willingly go out with Cody Clairmont? - and she laughs. “It was lust at first sight, what can I say.”

“You were better off than me, at least,” I shrug, “he lived with me for a few months in first year. He was the flat mate from hell.”

“Oh god,” she chuckles, “you poor thing! Oh yeah, I’m Ella, by the way, not just Dumb Enough to Date Dakota Clairmont. So how the hell does my idiot of an ex bring you here?”

“It’s his twenty-first,” I sigh, pointing in his general direction, “the birthday boy’s girlfriend-” she bursts into giggles- “-no, shut up, I don’t know how but she seems to really like him! She invited me. I thought Hunter might show his face around here, but I guess I thought wrong...”

“Yeah, how is Hunter?” inquires Cate, and I can tell from the hard squeeze on my thigh that what she really means is, Are you two back together? Because you’d better not be.
