A Bittercon for AnimeIowa

Jul 31, 2020 23:40

If things had gone as they should have, today would've been the first day of AnimeIowa. This year they were moving back to Coralville, Iowa, where they'd held the convention a number of years previous. I'd been excited about going back, because we'd done well in proportion to the size of the convention, and the low cost of the booths had made it a profitable one, even if not as much as we might have liked. And the new/old venue would be closer than the one in Des Moines, so we'd have less gas expense each way, and would get to our hotel on Wednesday and back to my dad's place on Monday that much more quickly.

I wonder what the vendor hall would've been like in that venue. Would they have had J-pop piped in like they did in Des Moines? Would they have laid the vendor hall out in multiple small islands instead of long rows, an arrangement which gave us the advantage of having corner booths on both ends of our setup? Would they have had wide or narrow tables?

Because they canceled so early, they never really put up the regular con website. However, they did put together a Virtual Con Experience, which does seem to include some panel discussions, so I may try to bittercon some of them.

Unfortunately, their 2021 dates conflict with Tampa Bay Comic Con, so it won't be possible to go back to AnimeIowa next year. However, I will definitely keep them in mind for years when the dates are not a conflict, and would be happy to go back again.
