New Ideas on Those Drones?

There's a video going around of an interview with the CEO of a corporation that makes drones for military and civil government operations. He's claiming that the mystery drones are most likely our own, a specific type of reconfigurable drone that can go from quadcopter to fixed-wing aircraft mode, and they're searching for something that the government doesn't want to talk about, probably for security reasons. His own hypothesis is that they're radiation detectors searching for a formerly Soviet nuclear weapon that went missing from Ukraine in the 90's, and is known to have left Europe.

If this is at all accurate, this is a very concerning situation -- which may explain why the Federal government's official approach has been to pooh-pooh it away as being of no significance. A nuclear weapon in enemy hands on American soil could be used for blackmail, or for an outright terrorist attack. Such an attack was part of the backstory of Tom Kratman's Caliphate, and the threat of such was part of the plot of Robert A. Heinlein's 1953 short story "Project Nightmare."

OTOH, there are a number of other things they might be looking for, including illegal drug smuggling or human trafficking. So we might not be looking at a nightmare situation -- but what kind of drug smuggling or human trafficking operations would merit a response involving military-grade drones under the cover of secrecy and denial is concerning in itself.

It's looking more and more like something is going on, it's not just a bunch of dumb kids goofing around with consumer-grade drones, and the government wants to keep it quiet.
