And That Was Planet Anime Kansas City

Oct 23, 2024 13:05

This is the second year of this new anime convention, put on by the people who run Planet Comic Con. The Kansas City Convention Center (Bartle Hall) is an expensive venue, so the booths are priced proportionately, and this is an election year, which means that people are less willing to spend. Also, we were somewhat down on our merchandise -- and we're still in the process of clearancing out a bunch of old t-shirts and other merchandise, which means that we're getting less for a lot of what we are moving (but there comes a point at which trying to squeeze every possible penny out of merchandise is falling victim to the sunk cost fallacy).

I do think we'll try it again, as long as it doesn't conflict with any of our other shows. If it were to move to the second weekend, it could be a problem, given that we're already committed to Archon and that convention requires a different mix of merchandise. Assuming we do go, I want to have quite a bit more anime-related merchandise than we're carrying right now.
