I've been watching the path of Hurricane Helene. It's hitting hard in Florida, and while Tampa Bay isn't in the direct line of fire, Hillsborough County is going to get hit hard. Already at least one person has been killed as a result of a road sign from I-4 in Tampa being blown onto a car.
I-4 is one of the highways we regularly used to get into downtown Tampa when we were doing Tampa Bay Comic Con, so I'm familiar with the route.
And it looks like this hurricane is going to maintain its northward route inland rather than heading east and back out into the Atlantic. Here in Indianapolis we're already under a wind advisory, with possible 60-mph gusts. I'm hoping we can make it through without any unwelcome drama, but every time we have high winds, I remember the day before Thanksgiving in 2019, when branches from the big maple in the back yard were thrown onto the house, breaking a window and damaging the roof in my office. Our homeowner's insurance covered it, but it took time to fix, and we were just getting back to normal on that front when the COVID lockdowns started.
