We had actually not even planned to sell at InConJunction. When we saw that three other conventions were going to be lined up in the three previous weeks, we figured that four cons in a row would simply be too much. We'd just be panelists and otherwise hang out.
Then the first of those three cons waitlisted us. Not long afterward, we got socked with a massive bill for major repairs on our van, and had to dip into our "rainy day" fund to cover it. Suddenly the lower expenses of a hometown convention sounded a whole lot better, especially when I looked at our figures from the previous two years' sales.
This year it seemed like sales were slower. I haven't done the ledger, but I know the dealers' room felt a lot quieter. At least we're in the black, since we had no hotel or gas expenses, unlike the past two weeks, where we made booth but not book. And it didn't help that we had to put a new battery in our car -- and batteries are a whole lot more expensive than they used to be. (OTOH that car is our daily driver, so the expense would've come up anyway).
However, we're definitely going to prioritize InConJunction, even if we pass on some of the other June and July conventions to keep from exhausting ourselves. Already I'm tired enough that Sunday writing challenges are going to have to wait until tomorrow.
