Sarah Hoyt has finally been able to get this week's book promo and vignette challenge up on her blog, after three days of wrestling with a new "feature" of WordPress that seems to think it knows what she wants better than she does. My effort is another bit of "Breaking Strain," as Lucius and Shelly talk.

I forget the title, but there's a story (Connie Willis? Nancy Kress?) where two aliens visit Earth and encounter two human couples: one New Money and one Old Money. The aliens and the Old Money couple get along wonderfully and both find the New Money couple hard to relate to. One of the key scenes had the New Money couple being disturbed at the Old Money couple's dogs jumping up on the furniture ...

(My guess is that the author had read Paul Fussell's Class, a hilariously funny book on American social stratification.)
