I did manage to get the Victory Girls writing challenge done while I was out on errands. It's another bit of what I'm calling the dispatches from the reconstruction, although I don't think I'll use it as the title of a novel or collection of these things, given the connotations of "reconstruction

Is "that betrayal" an oblique reference to covid vaccination, or to the medical and public health response to covid in general? Or to some different problem that happened at a different time in a different history? Or perhaps the latter as an allegory for the former?

Right now I feel like keeping it ambiguous works better than pinning it down. Leave it open for readers to make their own interpretations.
