Ayo Gurkhali!

Well, amidst the furore about MP's expenses ... to see the sorts of things currently enraging our recession-hit nation, vide:

it is so very pleasing to see that Parliament has at last got one thing right, i.e. all Gurkha veterans will be granted right of abode in the UK! The moral point that those who were willing to give their lives for this country should have the right to live here won, after all!

Many thanks to the wonderful campaigning of Joanna Lumley (remember her, as "Purdy" of "The New Avengers", and "Patsy" in "Ab Fab"?), who, to my mind, has one of the best and most cultivated speaking voices in England, and, moreover, always manages to look and act like an English Lady should, even under the pressures of surviving the extreme conditions on a deserted island and going to the North Pole to see the Northern Lights, for TV recently (wouldn't it be nice to see her made a Dame for this?).

Here is Joanna on being "ladylike" (typically, not taking herself too seriously) in a TV interview with Russel Harty, back in the 70's

Also, to my surprise, these words from the article made my eyes pop "The actress received Royal backing in her campaign, understood to be the Duchess of Cornwall".
Little though I like Camilla generally, one has to admit, she appears to have got this one right ... good on her too!
